Re: Clean Showers?

The pilots I've showered in have all been pretty decent. T/A's are like Jekyll and Hyde: Some are great (I think it was Columbia,MO) and some are horrible (Hudson,WI).
Lysol, instant sanitizing wipes, and flip flops are MANDATORY!

I know I'm from Australia not the USA/Canada, but I'd be extremely surprised if anyone over there rated a truckstop restroom/shower facility as being on a par with a motel room.

Actually, here the facilities are quite good. Most truckstops here are owned/run or staffed by ex truckers or their families. Even the big corporate places have trucker's wives/sons/daughters working in them so the restrooms, showers and restaurants are all pretty decent.

When I was driving, I'll make an effort to shower at Flying J's or Petro's. Some of the TA's are getting better with make overs.

Pilot

I mainly used Pilots cause the company I drove for at the time mainly used them. Most of Pilot showers were decent, some were horrible, But can't complain too much as it was free with fuel purchase. Just protect yourself.

Gotta agree with most here. The Pilots, Petros, Flying J's were usually pretty clean. Most TA's were ok, some you learned to avoid.

Bathrooms, on the other hand, can be a disaster at any location. I don't really blame the truck stops though, more the people that use them. I swear, some people must be on a quest when they go into a truck stop bathroom to see just how big of a mess they can make before they leave.

Its not really a 'chain' but I was on a dedicated run where I was in Ft. Wayne IN, several times a week. I-69 X-109A (us-30 junction) 'The Point' truck stop always had very clean showers. I never had a complaint and I used them up to 2 or 3 times a week. But I do have to say that the service in the restaurant sucked (food was good though). For the driver that was making that comparison.

It is really a hit and miss with anywhere you stop. I have been into some really really bad chain showers and then some are good. but I alway carry Lysol with me and spray everything in the shower. Plus wear shower shoes and when I get out and put my reg shoes on I spray my shower shoes down too.

Unhappy The Truck Stops Here

I'm truly amazed at what I've read since I've joined this site! I haven't really read very much positive but I’m sure it’s in here somewhere! I'm getting ready to go back OTR. Haven't been since late 90s although I did drive for a company that required me to drive 10 MW & E states last year. I never had to shower at any of the truck stops! Only fuel and that was pretty much it and that was only for last year! It's really too bad that the TAs and the rest of the big places are that way! So Now I guess I'll find out on my own in a week or so! The same basic thing coming from so many different drivers? There has to be some truth in it! I’m listening….er reading I mean! It’s making me depressed…….. HaHa…
