Worst shower, hands down, without a doubt....

The Seminole Truck Stop on US 27, near Miami Florida.

The showers (2 of them) are located in a cement block outbuilding behind the truckstop itself. Dimly lit. NO air conditioning....try drying off in a steamy shower room in the steamy south Florida humidity!!!! No soap. Not cleaned in between uses (or doesn't appear to be). NO towels. And the water supply is their own (not city water) and is SOOOO over-treated with chlorine that it makes your skin and eyes burn. I'm a Florida girl and grew up swimming in pools....the water at the Seminole is worse than any swimming pool I've ever been in.

And the shower's current condition is a vast improvement from the way it used to be. The first time I looked in the shower buildings, there was literally a carpet of mold and mildew all over the floors, walls and shower curtain. I can only guess the hyper-chlorinated water was their answer to that problem (without actually having to do any work.) The truckstop changed hands and has been cleaned up a bit in recent years, the lot was paved and the C-store is now clean, well lit and stocked with a better variety of stuff. But the showers still suck. Horribly.

As for the chain truckstops....I agree a lot of the TA's are crappy but I like them because many of them have a ledge in the shower to prop my foot up so I can shave my legs easier .....ya'll men don't think of that stuff and evidently truckstop shower designers don't either!! Never seen a Petro or a J with a ledge in the shower.

And I've seen plenty of grungy, cramped Flying J showers, with moldy shower curtains that always "blow" into the shower as soon as you turn the hot water on, and they stick to your body while you're trying to bathe! Ew!

Never have liked the Flying J showers for that reason- that, and the nasty green liquid soap in there....I usually bring my own soap but occasionally I forget....it's because of Flying J I always "steal" the little soaps from other truckstops and hoard them in my shower bag in case I forget my own soap at a flying J!!

I think all truckstops ought to have showers like Little America in Wyoming. Or like shower #1 at the Sapp Bros. in Denver. Now that would be nice.

My worst has got to be the TA at the Baltimore Travel Plaza...I95 Exit 57. I had to pay because I didn't fuel and there was a guy who had the nerve to ASK me for a tip! I told him I just paid 10 bucks to use nasty Baltimore Water and the only tip he was getting from me was not to clean bathrooms for Gratuity in Truckstops!

I am not a fan of the showers at the hook, although they are cheaper than most, the damn shower curtain will wrap you up like a frickin Gordita as the above poster mentioned. There is a place in Millersville Maryland, Exit 10 on I97 called the Transit Truckstop and although I have never showered there, the price says 4 bucks if you got a towel and 6 if they gotta give you one, which aint half bad.

I don't think you'll get an argument from anyone about that place.

Even worse now, they have IdleAire set up there now. So, whatever parking they had left there just got reduced by about 50%.

Just that whole area of the south side of Montgomery looks about as bad as some third world country or a former communist country (like Skopje, Macedonia).

Believe it or not, when I was with Schneider, most of their terminals had well-maintained showers. However, those were at the fully staffed terminals. The one in Green Bay left much to be desired (and that's their home base)! Indy, Seville, Dallas, Carlisle, West Memphis, Atlanta (the new one) and Gary were pretty good. So was Evergreen, AL until they shut it down four months after I left. Columbus was only a step above the Pilot in Dublin, GA. Same for the bulk yard in Houston.

Crete is a different cat altogether. Decent company to work for, but they sure don't have a full-time sanitation engineer staff. Not even in Lincoln!

Two words guaranteed to make any Covenant driver shiver with disgust?

"Sayreville yard".....in Sayreville, New Jersey. It was an old yard for some LTL company. Decrepit building. And the shower was so filthy that it defies description. Nearest truck stop is Bordentown, some 40 miles away and they will NOT let you bobtail there for a shower. I got stuck there for 3 days once, and I'd already gone without a shower for a day and a half when I arrived. They wouldn't pay for a hotel since my truck was not in the shop- I was waiting on a co-driver.

By my last day at Sayreville and closing in on 4 days without a shower, I did finally go in there, armed with a can of some heavy-duty industrial, concentrated antibacterial cleaner with bleach in it, and a can of Lysol, and flip-flops on. I touched nothing but the clean water. I'm far from being nit-picky or particular, but that shower was horrid.

Otherwise, Covenant's terminal showers were tolerable. Always brought a can of Lysol and shower shoes, but it wasn't too bad considering.

Are you still with Covenant, or did you move on to greener pastures?

As both a former employee of truckstops and a driver who has seen several drivers in the past 6yrs with fungus and flesh eating bacteria on their feet and spread to other parts of their bodies I strongly suggest that no matter how clean a shower may look even in a motel you stay in always ALWAYS!!!! wear those little rubber thongs on your feet. Put them on as soon as you remove your shoes and socks and try not to expose your bare feet to the floor or tile.I always carried bleach and lysol to clean a a shower or toilet, but always use precautions even if cleaning myself, these are not garantees you can't catch something. It only takes 1 careless moment not using a toilet seat cover to catch something you might never get rid of. depending on the store they cost 99 cents and up.

My favorites are The Little America T/S out in Wyoming, nice bathtubs!

Jubitz in Portland, The Bosselmans in Grand Island-312-

There are many I don't like, but the Pilot in Ocala Fla,the one w/the Wendy's has a water pressure as strong as a stream of kitten urine.
