Buffet, Big Ugly Fat Folks Eating Together Or, Big Ugly Fat Folks Eating Too much And, as much as I still laugh at that, I am one of those Fat Folks in line (thankfully, not that often). The Flying J's breakfast buffet is just too yummy....

It's not quite ham, it's not quite meat. Doesn't matter, cut a thick slice and fry in butter (like bologna, or baloney), I can already feel my arteries squeezing shut... Not some spray cheeze and the phone to call 911!

I never eat at the buffet and heres why....next time you use the restroom watch the guy that comes out of the stall in his filthy sweats and wife beater shirt, who hasn't showered in a month and smells like rotting carrion. He walks right past the sinks, doesn't wash his hands because cleanliness is abhorrent to him. The next time you see him he is dishin'up at the buffet. Enjoy your meal!!!!!!

well you're danged if you do and danged if you don't at the J. I don''t get the buffet because of the many hands that go in it. (notice i didnt call anyone a slob) But if you order a salad from the J to go, as I often do, they make it from the salad bar and put your steak on it from the kitchen. Petro does it too. I told em once, If I wanted food from the buffet, I would've ordered the buffet. I get nothing but an eyeroll. Its Karma, I'm tellin ya.

The trick is to get there when it starts, and hope they don't recycle what is leftover from the previous day. Less hands have pawed at the food, A note on salads, I avoid them at the J as well, too much nitrite I think, gives me bad problems at any rate, which I avoid if I avoid the salad bar. I try not to eat at brunches, leftovers and juice. a little joke of mine from yesteryear.

before working at Flying J's, I use to work at restaurants. I've worked for Sonny's Bbq, Ryans steakhouse, Cracker Barrel, Mcdonalds, Denny's, and Applebee's. Most places use left overs from salad bars and Sonny's uses meat again, if you eat at sonny's in the daytime your eating reheat from the night before, mid lunch day you get the nice pretemp raw pork that was put on at 8am, by about 1:30 pm (if the cook running the slicer can cook) its nice and juicy. if the cook the night before wasnt a complete idiot, then there would be hardly any reheat to serve for lunch, just a few semi cooked pieces of pork that were put on to help the morning cook in getting some good meat. Mcdonalds sucked and no one cared if you got what you ordered. cracker barrel was good, not great but good. by far Applebee's at the time I worked there was the best, each steak was wrapped individually and dated, every pan was changed out at night everything was cleaned perfectly, even the stainless handles were cleaned and were part of the regular process of cleanliness, You were Inspected on your closing efforts, everything was checked, Microwave had to be completely spotless (only used for brocoli and alfredo). By far for a clean eating, Applebee's was the best. I'd say thats what truckstops need for truckers only..just without the booze.
