| TruckStop Locations A few have asked if there were Truck Stop "Locations" available to D/L into GPS. I have D/L the "Locations" files from Several of the Major Truck Stop chains. For a GPS unit, I believe they use a TXT file, so D/L the TXT files. Microsoft Streets and Trips uses XLS files Delorme uses CSV files I had to upload the XLS files as ZIP files so you will need to unzip them, XP has a build-in utility for this. I have uploaded several files and I will convert others soon. To Use these location files with MSS or Delorme, D/L the file to your desktop, with the program (MSS or Delorme) open; click on the DATA Tab, then click on the "Import Data Wizard". Find the file on your desktop and select it. The Import Data Wizard will show a "TREE" that looks somewhat like this: - Sheets --Sheet1 --Sheet2 --Sheet3 Click on 'Sheet1', Click on 'Next', then click on 'Finish'. These files contain locations by address and GPS coordinates, plus they also list the "Amenities" these truck stops offer. Following these directions will place a "PushPin" on the US map showing their locations. I am sure that Delorme works similar to this. I don't know exactly how to import the TXT file into a hand-held GPS unit, so if anyone knows how to do this, please post step-by-step directions.

The ZIP files are compressed XLS (Spreadsheet) files used by Microsoft Streets and Trips. WXP and Vista will uncompress these files with-out needing any third-party software. I will upload the CSV files (in ZIP format) used by Delorme and PC Miler this weekend. I will also upload the TXT, CSV and XLS files that locate all the CAT Scales in the US that will represent most CHAIN Truck stops as well as many Independants. Those dash-top and hand-held GPS units (Garmin, Cobra, TomTom and Magellan) use the TXT files.

| MORE Files PLUS Cat Scales Quote:
I tried to U/L the files earlier tonight, but connection was sketchy and couldn't do it. Anyway, I am going to surf the Manufacturers Websites for instructions on "HOW TO" import these files into the Dash-Top and hand-held GPS units (Garmin, TomTom, Cobra and Magellen). I will post links later.

| I heard there was a truck stop somewhere near the mid east, that if you get a xx ounce steak and if you eat it all then you don't have to pay.....does anyone know what I'm talking about. |

Oh, Texas is not in the "mid east." Such blasphemy! |

| Have you guys seen the Truck Stops Plus add on template for Microsoft Streets & Trips? It has thousands of truck stops and Super Walmarts, including all the majors and a ton of independent truck stops all in their correct locations. It also shows all the rest areas, turnpike plazas, picnic areas, weigh stations etc. I use it every day and I really love it. It is also very accurate. I'm sorry I don't have a link off the top of my head but you can find it via google. Oh yeah...I almost forgot, it also makes it much easier and faster to check your routes for restricted routes and low clearances! I'm also a former long time Co-pilot user, but not any more. |
