Yeah, I hear you. The last outfit I pulled for had me in and out of Georgia all the time; going to Case/New Holland, or Mahindra. Luckily, there was a shopping center near the Mahindra facility that I could park at overnight.

As a truck driver I have only had them knock on my door 1 time while I was in the sleeper.. The pilot in Birmingham... I have had them walk over to me while i was sitting in driver seat and I simply shake my head saying no and they move on... Beggars on the other hand are way more persistent and annoying....
i heard that. i grew up in B'ham and that area around arkadelphia rd is crack/gang city BIG TIME!! if i stop there i either go to the J a little further down 59 or up 65. or up 59N i stop at trussville Kmart to park (dad is MGR there)

I avoid Franklin for one reason: I got mistaken for a Lot Lizzard there! I was offered a job "entertaining the boys"....

that t/a was a real hole in the wall. had some "interesting" places nearby. several bars and even the "grazing cattle" strip bar. not a great area at all but surprisingly there are some real big businesses close by and they look nice. it's just that little area t/a sits in that is bad. hopefully the flying j will clean up the riff raff.

with all the t/s in the area there really is no reason to stop for the night inside the perimeter. you got t/a, pilots' and loves outside the perimeter in every direction plus away from that wonderful atlanta traffic.

So the TA in Conley GA is finally closed..I'll be dipped!

I remember when it first opened in the late 70's. It was an independent stop called "Transport City". Awesome stop. Just great. absolutely great.

They even had a sauna & steam room for drivers. No charge.

They had a cafeteria with little negro boys in starched white shirts complete with black bowtie and red jacket to carry your tray to the table. That, alas, was short lived as it didn't go over well with truckers, but the tourists liked it. The drivers would rather have a sexy little baby doll in a short skirt to carry their tray and refill their coffee than a little negro boy dressed like a maitre 'd.

The elegance of Transport City was short lived in general. Soon thereafter, the Sauna & Steam room was closed. Too much upkeep & driver abuse. Much too soon it became a white elephant and was sold to TA. It wa downhill from there on.

I was one of the first drivers to ever visit Transport City. It was way ahead of its time.

I passed by it last night to drop a trailer at B.A.H. Place looks like a warzone. Surprised Blue Beacon is still there. I'd be afraid of getting robbed in that place.

i have stopped in there from time to time but it was just tog et fuel and some taco bell and then get back to drivin and drippin my taco bell all over my shirt as i was eatin an drivin. i have always tried my best to avoid stayin the night/day in truckstops i usually will find a place at or near the shiper/receiver but all in all T/A and pilot are my truckstops of choice. my favortie T/A would be the one on I-80 in walcott IA beings when im there i park the truck an go hang out at my grandmas house

The Dalton Pilots are a damn joke, glad to hear the TA is gone. I stopped there once after an extended stay at the Kroger DC. Never again after that. Now if you want some better stops depending on which way you're going out there's a decent pilot near Athens on 20 and a ridiculous awesome pilot in Tifton. I think the Tifton one was a Williams there's parking for 200 in there, a blue beacon on site and they have a steak and shake too.
