Dude, where did you find this picture?

Ahh, the good ol' days. I remember riding with my Dad in his big truck and swinging in to these heavenly oases. Then there were the times on family vacations like newbie described. I vividly remember truckers rubbin' my head after they removed my "CAT Diesel Power" trucker cap from my head and saying things like, "You gonna grow up to be just like your daddy, boy?" I'd smile and give 'em a definitive "YESSIR!"

Like that Tim McGraw hit says, I miss back when..

What about that one at the 16 on 65 just north of Louisville. I used to love stopping there. Now it's a dang ol' Loves.

There the ones that know your "name" and "Co" you drive for. There the ones that that will "jump start" your Truck without a "P.O. driver I.D. ect. There the ones were the first thing a waitress does is take your coffee thermos and get it ready when you are. On this trip not "ONE" waitress even looked at my Jug. There the one that don't say "Travel Plaza" The "TruckStops" are still there you just have to spend alittle time and find them.
That sounds good, I liked my Dad's "Truck Stops" when I went on trips with him. I must go to Carneys Point in NJ, but I do not like the idea of trying to find a truck stop that Dad took me to. He bought me a shirt there & it said 'Transport City, NJ' on it. But I have no clue where in NJ that would be...I was young & who knows if it is even around now.

There was one near me on Rt 460 in Narrows Va. a little place that was just called"The truck stop" not much parking about 4 or 5 trucks and it was full, but hey back then my little IH Transtar with that 45 foot trailer fit just right. The food was so good everyone went there on Sundays, but drivers always seemed to be taken care of first, and believe it or not the others didn't mind.

When I started driving in the early 1980's,major truckstop's were fine.I didn't know any better. They were a place to fuel, park and have a meal.A few years down the road and some more experience,I found smaller places off the beaten path.Mom and Pop truckstop's.Most had a diner, truck parking, some shower facilities and peace and quiet. Some had a small motel with a T.V..Now we are talking luxury.Remember when Motel 6 was 12.95 per night?Anyway, get off the main roads, onto the backrounds and you will still be suprized what you might find when you shut down. Also, does anyone remember the diner, small motel with a steakhouse and bar in California,Chino exit, off I-10?The 76 was just a few miles east. The 76 was a nightmare. This place was heaven. It's proably long gone by now.Does any one remember?
