| Truck stops 25 years ago Just returned home from a East Coast turnaround, Thinking what happen to my "Truck Stops" I found them ! They are the ones on the small secondary highways. There the ones that say "Joes" or "Home Style Cooking" There the ones when you walk in you are not thinking you are in a Zoo looking at Tigers and lions hanging off the wall. There the ones that know your "name" and "Co" you drive for. There the ones that that will "jump start" your Truck without a "P.O. driver I.D. ect. There the ones were the first thing a waitress does is take your coffee thermos and get it ready when you are. On this trip not "ONE" waitress even looked at my Jug. There the one that don't say "Travel Plaza" The "TruckStops" are still there you just have to spend alittle time and find them. |

| Yea, I miss the old, homey truck stops of the past. I remember when I was a kid, I used to LOVE to go into a truck stop...now these "travel plaza's" are cold and unwelcoming to be sure. No fun anymore...

| I camped at the "Trailway" TS on Hwy 301 in Centreville, MD earlier this week. It was like a blast from the past. There are others, as well. In the meanwhile, I try to be a loyal Petro customer because they are much more like the truck stops used to be, and, the truck diesel is sold in an area segregated away from the four wheelers and their tourist drivers. Occasionally, circumstances force me into a Pilot, Loves, or Wilco/Hess. I hate it, but, the experience makes appreciate the Petro environment even more. |
