I won't even park in their lot. This is because of an incident several years ago at the Fort Pierce, FL location.

I pulled in at sunset with a track crane I had loaded in Miami. I was a little behind because of traffic, but still legal when I rolled into their lot. The parking spots were all occupied, so I found a nice wide spot out of the way, and shut her down. Within 5 minutes, a deputy sherriff was knocking on my door, asking what I was up to. I told him I was going to fill out my log, get a shower, something to eat, and then sleep. His response was, "park in a marked parking space or leave."

So, I went in to see the manager and plead my case. No mercy there. I went back out to the deputy and informed him I couldn't move at night because I was oversize. He said, "Not my problem."

So, I fired up the CAT, and headed for the highway. This same deputy comes on the CB, asking me where I thought I was going. I told him, "not my problem" as I hit I-95.

16 miles up I-95 was the Vero Beach TA. There I got permission from the manager to park next to the scale. I will never go to a Flying J again.

Not to impugn upon anyone's religious beliefs here, but Flying J is Mormon-owned and they make no bones about it.

what ever happend to thier Truck check oil analysis service

Remember they also use to have a grey box that would check your oil while you got you PM done. Then the next thing I new one by one they stopped having them and I started seeing them at Speedco. I guess they got so big they thought they didnt need that service any more either.

I was just wondering, what that has to do with anything? I thought those people were against tobacco and alcohol, so why can I purchase beer and cigarettes at a flying-j?

The flying-j not using visa cards is just like Sam's Club not using MasterCard. Sam's went through a phase in which they wouldn't accept my MasterCard. I told them to shove my membership. All because of the fees they were being charged by MasterCard.
They finally started taking MasterCard again.

I never understood why some people thought the flying hook was better than any other truck stop. Never cared for them myself.

I do realize that this is an old thread but I wanted to shed some light on the truth & not just CB rumors.

Hmmm.... you're mad at the Flying J because when they tried to get into the fuel card business back in the mid-'90's, Comdata tried to force them out & keep it a monopoly?

You're mad because Flying J wouldn't let Comdata double charge you for using your Comdata card at the Flying J?

Comdata had to pay Flying J almost $50 million in damages after Flying J's filed a lawsuit back in the late '90's when this all came down. Also Comdata was ordered by the courts to allow Flying fuel cards to work in the "Trendar System".

The Trender System is what allows you to swipe your fuel card at the fuel island & buy fuel & other things. It was introduced by Comdata & Comdata pretty much used it to force out all other fuel cards & keep any new & competing ones from ever getting started.

Anyhow, Comdata went back on the court order & still tried to keep out Flying J. I'm guessing that the latest thing with Visa is also tied into the system.

>>>YAWN<<<

Yet anthor CB rumor....

The founder of Flying J died in a plane crash in '03 leaving one wife & two kids. Nowhere did I ever read anything about him being a Mormon & even if he had been why would it matter?

So, what is your connection with the "one wife" and being a Mormon? I'm not following the logic of your post.

Long ago, it was standard practice in the Mormon church to have several wives, The church banned the practice many many years ago, but some splinter groups still do it.

Some people who are uninformed and ignorant to church doctrine still believe it is all Mormons who practice polygamy.

P.S. No Im not Mormon either, just informed.
