TA, Petro restaurants join trend of cutting midnight hours

TA, Petro restaurants join trend of cutting midnight hours

Counting on a hot meal and table service 24 hours a day has become a bit more difficult for professional truck drivers in recent months.
TravelCenters of America is cutting midnight hours for 19 truck stop restaurants, and 25 restaurants total among TA and Petro currently have limited midnight hours of operation.
TA began cutting hours at locations with low restaurant business in February, said Tom Liutkus, TA’s director of advertising and public relations.

This really makes alot of sense.

All the trucks out there operate on the same time lines. Pretty soon, they will start to only sell fuel during certain hours in order to save money.

There was talk about this today on Sirrius Road Dog. A caller brought up a good point. With no restaraunt open for drivers, what reason will they have to stop there? They will go somewhere else to get what they need, and they will take their business too. The caller stated that he used to buy fuel at a said location, but since they closed the restaraunt, hes brought his business elsewhere...so this 'closure' has costed them a customer.
I understand their reasoning, but they need to look at the ripple effect this will cause.

Yep, the food hours and the "fun" of backing up a spread axle into a tight spot that 20 other drivers gave up on before you got there are the reasons my day starts at 4am every day now.

I stopped at a Petro just last week (Kingdom City, MO). It was after midnite. There were about 10 of us having a meal.

One waitress only... who was putting dishes in the washer, bussing tables, and running the register.

Keep in mind, most of us were having "breakfast". So she had to do the toast also.

I made sure I left her a good tip. She was working her ### off.
