Truck stop property heads toward rezoning

Truck stop property heads toward rezoning

The site of the former 7 West Truck Stop should be returned to its former commercial zoning according to a recommendation forward to the Hutchinson City Council Tuesday night, Oct. 21, by the Planning Commission.
Citizens Bank, current owner of the large vacant at the intersection of State Highway 7 West and Shady Ridge Road, is seeking to change the site’s present residential zoning. The site had been changed to residential two years ago when the neighboring Cedar Crest Estates assisted living facility for seniors considered expanding.
At least one resident of northwest Hutchinson expressed concern with what he sees as an unkempt lot. Former County Commissioner Ed Doring, who lives on Rolling Oaks Lane, said he was concerned about how the lot will be maintained until it is sold and developed.
A trio of ordinance amendments also got favorable recommendations from the Planning Commission and will be acted on by the council Oct. 28.
