The Silver Bridge in Mountainburg, AR is located north of Ft. Smith on I-540. It's small with an attached diner and very friendly staff. Looking west in their parking lot you will see the twin spans of the I-540 bridge with the mountains as a backdrop. Haven't been back there in six years.

Actually, I know of a couple good places right off the top of my head! The A&A Truck Stop on Rt.35 south of Jackson, Ohio (I used to work there), also on 35 down in W.Virginia, there's Country Roads (which IMO opinion isn't as good as the A&A because the lot sucks, but the food's good).

I was also in a pretty good one on the way to Chicago a few months ago, off 65 in Indiana. The food was pretty good, and they had a pretty decent little store too. But I can't remember what it was called!

Does anyone remember the old Key Truck Stop just east of Houston on I-10? It has been closed and gone for years. It was a dump, but you could get tires fixed, truck and trailer worked on, and the food was pretty good.

The biggest thing it had going for it was it was the only game in town except for the 76 north of town on 45.

I had to drive all the way from Victoria to there one night to get a flat fixed. I had a full load of onions, and the tire was a bias ply, tube type. It was hot and smoking when I got there, but we scraped out the chewed up liner and tube, cut out some of the loose tire cords, put in a radial tube, and hit the road.

Things like that make you go out and buy valve stem clamps to keep the stem out of the tire. All you "old timers" know what I am talking about.

When I was but-a-youth, around 1974 or so, my friend's dad drove a Mack for Emge Meats and I took a ride with them from IN over to PA somewhere. I remember hitting some cool truckstops, living the life, on the road with a purpose. We helped fuel, washed windows, smacked the tires, talked on the CB...... That was pretty darn cool for a kid!

Even tho the memories are pretty foggy, I think that trip had a big impact on my life. It was such a wondrous thing for a kid, my disneyworld, lol.
