Once you spend a few more years out here you will learn where Industrial area's are and then know where you can sleep.

Simply keying up on 19 as afforded me several "new found bunk" locations
all over the nation.ESPECIALLY in the NO IDLE States
Boycotts are for sissy's and I make no apologies for the statement

I haven't heard much news on Flying J/Pilot other than J selling off all of their refinery assets. There have been some layoffs at J that I've noticed and heard about. That sure doesn't make service any better. What's everyone else seeing?

For months before the non-merger was announced, we were seeing some of the sit-downs close at 9PM, and/or remove the buffet.

As of recently, it appears that the J's are selling a lot of their stuff at close-out pricing, and replacing with some of the crud the P-lots sell. Although I don't really like to eat at the J's, sometimes it IS nice to sit down for a meal that I didn't cook myself on the truck, and the J is the only thing around.

What I really wish is that these big-chain truck stops had not put the smallones out of business. These places may not have had the "convenience" of selling just about everything under the sun...
But, they DID usually have good sit-downs, and many of them had repair shops that didn't charge ya half a years pay.

Two things I saw yesterday (11-1-2009) at the Flying J at Clear Brook, Virginia (Winchester) I 81 x 323, 1530 Rest Church Road ...

DO NOT ENTER yellow tape with a big CLOSED sign at the entrance to the laundry room.

Now, if there had been a machine problem or a water problem, they should have been putting up an accompanying sign saying as much, detailing what the problem was and when they thought it would be fixed by.

But since that was NOT there, just "CLOSED" leads me to believe that Flying J is being driven by suits at corporate either in Ogden, UT or Knoxville, TN (Pilot) to do away with laundry rooms at Flying J's.

Am I off my mark?

Also, I used to see bottles of windshield wiper fluid, racks of clothes and other items outside the main entrance but those are gone.

I said it before in another post but i will say it agian to add to what you said, along with stuff like laundray rooms going away or getting smaller, look for the drivers loungers to slowly start weeding out. Flying J. will never be the same after Pilot gets through.

Ouch. Those are some bad signs. I've seen a lot of clues like that over the last few months.

Miscommunication at the Flying J, Clear Brook, Virginia (Winchester) ...

Sure looked to me the way the tape and the sign were put up that this particular laundry room was no longer in operation.

However, I e-mailed the Flying J public relations office about the problem and described the way they put up the tape and sign with no indications as to what the problem was or when it would be fixed, etc. In light of the merger and operational things changing ... it got me scared that laundry facilities was just another thing that was going to be pushing up daisies.

The public relations people apparently got in touch with "Luke", I guess he's one of the managers at that Flying J.

He called me and told me that at 6:45 PM on 11-1-2009, something went wrong with the propane feed into the laundry room so they lost the ability to generate hot water and to dry clothes. So, that's why the tape and the closed sign got put up. Also, by 8:15 PM, they figured out the propane feed problem and everything got working again.

Well, h***, that's about the time I left. It would have been nice for them to have a sign next to the big CLOSED sign that said ... "Here's the problem _______________ . Here's when we think it will be fixed _______________ ".

And I would have stayed around. That would have saved me time and effort.

However, public relations did get the problem made known to the Clear Brook, Virginia Flying J and that manager did call and smooth over ruffled feathers.

So, Flying J till I die !
