Pilots plans for Flying J restaurants

Here's the scoop:
Since Pilot bought out Flying J everyone has been curious what they will do with the restaurants. Well here it is:

IHOP and Denny's will have first choice/shot at what travel centers they would like to set up a restaurant in. The other ones will become fast food joints(anyone shocked that we'll see fast food there?)

I actually like the idea of an IHOP or Denny's in there. I've never really been a fan of the restaurants at Flying J. Your thoughts fellow drivers?

Well Baack this is what some woman at Pilot corporate told me on the phone and I heard this from several drivers over the weekend as well. To be honest I haven't checked the website to see Baack. If I am wrong about what I was told I certainly will retract it...

My favorite thing about the J restaurants was the fried chicken. Will miss that.

That could be. Like I said I actually wouldn't mind an IHOP or Denny's. I wouldn't even mind seeing them in some TA's for a change

Some were good and others were bad, if the locals would be eating there, it was usually good. Whatever they do won't change that. I have never seen an IHOP at a truck stop, either 1 would be an improvement at Evansdale but there is an IHOP 4 miles away in Waterloo, IA. I never eat off the buffet anywhere I go.

I have checked restaurant websites in the past, not much in the way of news.

I kinda had a hunch about the IHOP or Denny's being brought into some Flying J's and then the others would get like a Subway or other national brand fast food. However, a Country Market waitress told me that Flying J is only getting money from Pilot and that Pilot will not be involved with the day to day operations of the J's.

"Yea, sure"; I said to myself as I grinned at her and shook my head yes.

Irregardless of what some others on this website have said, I like the Flying J sit down restuarants and their buffet line. I will be sad to see them go. Are some of the food offerings crappy? Yes, but overall I will still miss them.

From what I have heard, Canadian operations were not affected by the Pilot merger. Hopefully this is true. The Napanee Flying J has some of the friendliest folks on staff that I have ever run across. The one in Montreal, well, not so much...

If this happens up here in Canuckland, it will be an absolute disaster. We have far fewer choices than our US counterparts. Out west I imagine it will drive customers back to the Husky truck stops, many of which are decades old. In the east, it would hand the customer base to the Filthy... I mean FIFTH Wheel and Irving Big Stop sites on a silver platter. Maybe Ultramar would choose to reopen some of their restaurants...?
