I've often found that the off-the-wall places are the safest. One in particular that I've enjoyed is Doc's in Jarrell, TX (north of Austin on 35). Small dirt lot, lot of dust when windy, not a huge building. Good food at a good price, quiet, and friendly staff. It's little things like "you don't have to pay for a fax resend or copies" that makes you feel good. The negative points tend to keep the pampered cowboys away, but the good points make you feel welcome.

The absolute worst has to be the flying j in Arora co. only seasoned drivers need to try parking here and then someone will have to guide you. only try this during the day. They try to squeeze to many trucks in and the lot is way to narrow. must have used a shag for demensions.

Yeah, I have to agree on the Aurora J.

I got in early and was in the front row. Had to leave at 4 am local and went to pull out. Could not get out of my spot for all of the trucks parked along the rail. No one in the trucks. They were inside eating. Had to wait for 35 minutes for them to come out.

IIRC, the Florida HP routinely patrol the rest areas, that might be a safer place to park than the truckstops.
I drive Florida a lot, I usually either stay at my shipper/receiver or sometimes park in an industrial park area. Seems to be better than truck stops.

So can truck drivers carry guns or what? Cuz I got the medicine for danger. It's my baby bird and his meals are hollow if you get my drift.
