USA the Flying Hook at the 104 on I-59/I-20 McCalla, Alabama

Stayed there many nights with my band on the tour bus going back and forth to Nashville. Also, there is a privately owned truck stop at Elizabethtown, Kentucky right on I-65, can't remember the name (named after someones last name, I think it's Davis). Good food, nice roomy showers, good service, nice folks working there.

the best truckstop i'v been in for along time would be the Bosselmans in Grand Island Ne. Clean all around and pretty good food. The worst would be the truck stop in demming nm.

safest and most dangerous?
jk

seriously - I figure you must be going by the post right before yours - correct? safest/best

My s/o is at a Pilot near Dallas & although he had to pay to park, he's not liking the looks of it. The fence behind the truck is broken down, and supposedly there are security guards. He hasn't seen one.

You would be hard pressed to find anything good in Gary or West Memphis. Been there, done that! I broke down and pulled into a truck stop in North Little Rock one night on my bus. First time I ever slept with a pistol in my hand lying across my chest. And that's no ##### !!!

dang...

This thread is imformative but also sad. I remember when I was a kid I used to ride with my Dad every chance I got. Mainly in the summer. I loved being at truckstops. The only one I didn't like was one outside of Nashville, TN.
My dad mentioned how he hated truckstops especially sleeping at them. I asked why he said too many bums and lot lizards banging at the door. He did have a funny story of when he was awakened by an elephant's roar one night. It turned out to be a truck for a circus parked next to him.

Anyways he said he would fuel and get coffee and that was it. He didn't like eating big meals, or the noise so fuel is all he got most of the time.
Thanks for everyone's input. I am gonna list these because I am starting out hopefully soon and need all the info I can get. I haven't been in a truck since the early 90's so I can imagine a lot has changed.

That stop in Jersey City is just horrid. When I was pulling for USX we had a drop yard in South Kerney, which oddly enough we weren't allowed to park at. They sent me down to the stop and I wasn't impressed. The pumps were all broken and since they were I chose to sit on the fuel island. I didn't move from the sleeper until daybreak.

Unfortunately, it wasn;t my first choice as a stopping location, but as the day progressed I could see that it was where the hours were going to run out, and I needed to get as far as possible to make the next day work.
There's nothing wrong with the Pilot off the 223 there at route 46. There's always parking and at times you can find pull-through at night. I've already dropped my trailer there and bobtailed out the restaurants across 80 with no problems.

I was a manager of a truck stop for almost two years before it closed down. Boy...what a dump it was. No lot lizards (probably had one complaint the whole time I was there), but we busted three meth labs in our hotel. I'm talkuing about the 231 Ambest Plaza in Dale, Indiana (Interstate 64 # Exit 57). It's now a porn shop......
