Never park your truck on the end parking space no matter how easy it is to get in and out of, you risk being hit by guys going around the corner and hitting your rig with their trailer swing.

Hey all,
My husband is a somewhat new driver (been 20 years). I gleaned information off this thread to print out for him. I thought someone might also be interested in printing off a condensed list.

Condensed and edited from posters on this thread;

Driver was killed at the TA east in Ontario,CA.

Both TA's in Ontario CA are dangerous.

Don't stop in West Memphis at all.

If someone comes up to your truck and you do not know them, do NOT get out of your truck. Keep your doors locked at all times. If you don't idle your truck, at least make sure you have air in it so you can move the truck quickly if you need to.

The worst truck stops....The Pilots in Memphis- T/A Gary,IN - The Pilot on the loop in Atlanta

A driver was beaten and robbed at the Pilot in Corbin , KY . He was in his truck and an individual told him he (the person outside ) had hit the driver's trailer and damaged it . When the driver went behind the truck several bums were waiting and beat him and took his cash .

If anybody says they damaged your truck , stay put and tell them to pull their truck around in the row in front of you and show you on their truck where it made contact . If somebody says the rear of my truck is damaged I'm gonna start it up and pump the brakes and see if anyone runs from behind it .

A driver was shot and killed in a rest area in Platte City, MO off of I29

Lot Lizards: you just tell them no thanks. You tell them sternly to leave or lie to them that you have no money. Other truckers can be just as dangerous if not more than the vagrants or lot lizards. Just because they drive a truck it doesn't mean they are honest.

AVOID;
T/A Nashville
Flying J & Pilot/Dallas
TA/Dallas & Rockwall
Any truckstop within 50 miles of NYC
Any truckstop close to Philadelphia or Baltimore

The Pilot at Birmingham, AL
TA in Binghamton, NY
Any place in Gary, In
TA in montgomery AL
Twin TAs in Ontario
Most truck stops in Arkansas
Flying J Dallas and Indianapolis
JR's in OKC
The Pilot on the loop in Atlanta
Pilot in Corbin , KY
T/A and Pilot and 75 Chrome Shops in Wildwood Fl
Truck stop in Pine Bluff Arkansas next to McDonalds
Pilot in Dallas
TA in Jessup
Flying J up by seattle just off I5 you can get in there but you cant get out
TA in Denton,TX
Flying J in Arora Co (lot size too small)

Flying J in Indianapolis is a decent place ive stayed there alot and felt safe even went inside at 1 -3 am to go to bathroom. Also the TA in Gary is better than it used to be they got security running around the lot, but the main building is kinda nasty. I just use it for a place to park if I have to an thats it. But I actually like the J in Indy except that the place fills up at 3 to 4 pm.

There is a little truck stop on I-70 in Kansas at mile marker 193 (Bunker Hill). It is a small truck stop. It is very nice, the restrooms are always very clean.

Unless something has changed drastically in the last few months, the J on the south side of the loop (exit 4 off I-465) is Crackville. The one just south of Indy at exit 95 off I-65 is a whole different story though—is that the one you're talking about?

I didn't like going to that one in 1999 or 2000. I gladly use the other one on 65.

The one I was talking about was exit 4 off the loop, spent a whole weekend there about a month ago and felt safe didnt see any lizards or dealers running around. The only thing I ran into was the two guys that sell dvds there at night, the rag man during the day, and the pillow lady who does security at the paid lot an sells pillows all night. Lots of bs and talk on the cb all night long there but other than that ive felt safe there. Ive heard people says it used to be a really bad spot but the cops threw all the hookers and dealers in the slammer and keep an eye on the truck stops now but who knows, maybe I was there on a weekend when all the crackheads were on vacation..lol
