Talking Re: Let's Hear Them, Drivers!

Hmm... i hear a lot of drivers bashing the Iowa80, but I like it. The only problem with it is that it's always full of supertruckers itching to fight about anything. SB in Salt Lake is nice, TA in Cartersville is good because of that huge parking lot.A nice oddball stop is the Kings/Citgo fuel stop in Wintersville OH- the three times I have gone to the WM DC I have found parking there.

The TA in Columbia NJ is a dump, so is the one in Johnstown NY. And of course Jessup MD, and any of the Truck stops in West Memphis AR (drug dealers on the CB, need I say more?) are best avoided. The barbeque joint under the billboard (in N Little Rock) has some decent eats, on the rare occasion when I get out that way.

PA, near the Hersey warehouse?

i don't know if all the WAWA's are like this, but this one beats most truck stop food anyday.

not too much parking though, its a small lot for trucks to eat and go, basically.............and no truck fuel, gasoline only.

the "crappiest" place would be the Pilot truckstop at exit 7 in Bloomsbury, NJ. you can't ever seem to get in, trucks parked all over the place, blocking the fuel pumps, and exit driveway out of the place, a real nightmare (daily) to just try to get some fuel there, so stay away from this Pilot if you can. needless to say, i don't stop there anymore after my first nightmare try.
Dude, you're right in my backyard! Yeah, Wawa's are great! If you get a chance stop at a Sheetz. They're even better... the hoagies rocks. But, like Wawa they have small lots and no diesel. But, still worth the stop for the food.

I know where the Pilot stop is in NJ, haven't been to it though. I do remember the Pilot in Cookeville, TN being much as you described though. Since I don't have my CDL yet it makes me wonder if they're all like that.

Re: Let's Hear Them, Drivers!

So, I'm seeing a lot of people bashing T/A and Pilot. Any opinions on Flying J, Love's or AM Best?

Re: Let's Hear Them, Drivers!

I like love's, even though most of them are quite small, and like someone else said, your shower disappears in 24 hours. Am Bests are pretty much jekyll and hyde-ish (like T/A's), the one in Battle Creek (ex 104 I94) is decent, the one south of Salina KS was dumpy (except that the fuel island is full service, just punch in your comdata info and the crew does the rest). Flying J's are probably the most consistent, from facility to facility, with some exceptions. The one in Waddy KY is TINY, as is the one in Grand Ledge, MI.

Re: Let's Hear Them, Drivers!

One of my all time favorites is Dads on the I15 in Idaho Falls.
Pretty waitresses, and if they aren't working the older gals are sweet.
Good store, and great parking lot, designed for parking as opposed to cramming.
Great food
And the best damn showers anywhere.
The shower heads are ceiling mounted, and about 12" wide.
I'm 6'5' and I gatta tell ya standing in that warm rain shower is the best. I don't hafta duck my head to wash my hair.

Re: Let's Hear Them, Drivers!

From what I could tell while I was on the road, all the major truck stops that Werner told its drivers they could fuel up at, they are all pretty much the same. Of course one T/A in one part of the country may be totally different than a T/A in another state etc. I didn't really have any favorites, although, from what I can tell, the Love's had the smallest parking lots, & the flying s__thooks had the worst food-overall. I never had the misfortune of beeing solicited or harassed by ANY lot lizards.

You're in my neck of the woods, too. I'm not a trucker, so I can't imagine navigating a Wawa lot with 53' behind you. Fortunately, our local Wawa is directly across from a small terminal, so it's an easy pull-off... and from what I've observed, plenty make the stop.

I stay away from any of the big chain truckstops, they have the worst food, and the worst service, most of them are fast food and I stay away from that,

The truckstop in London KY exit 41 is one of the few places I stop to eat on I-75, they have good food and they all know me in there so they are always friendly, another one is exit 111 in Ohio on I-75 it is now a TA but they didn't change the restaurant, very good food and reasonable prices. Up here in Canada we don't have many big truck stops like in the US, there are a lot of small mom and pop type of places I like to go where you can get a good meal

I like the WaWa on US322 right inside NJ going toward Mullica Hill...it's between I295 and the NJTPK. They have small truck parking too, but just the fact that they put some effort into getting business from all the trucks going into Vineland is enough for me to stop there, and they got good subs.

I have not run into a Flying Dump yet that had good Coffee.....If I get coffee with my meal I usually ask the waitress for a refill on my "Cup o mud!" And they seem to know it too, because they just smile and fill me up.

Pilot/Loves.....ugh, I would rather eat out of a Trashcan and crap in a bowl than stop at any of them. I don't know what it is but they are the freakin 7-11 of Truckstops and that's demeaning to 7-11.

Tip Mentioned Jubitz and I will agree, that place is nice and when the T/A and Flying Crap-Hole in Troutdale are packed you can usually find a spot at Jubitz.
