Re: The key to being a driver is....

When I'm doing final assembly on a new plant I wear tight leather gloves with the fingers cut off 3/4 of the way out. Lets me grab things that are hot or sharp but I don't have to take my gloves off all the time to thread fine bolts or nuts for gauges, swedge lock fittings, and the like. Occasionally fingerless gloves are for more than just show.

hats and boots

not a thing wrong with western hats and boots. Its the man or woman that wears them thats important! and I've figured out why drivers wear the gloves with the fingers cut out! They like to see their girlfriend in shorts!!!!!!

as a wearer of fingerless gloves, i gotta put this thread to rest. you wear fingerless gloves for one reason: keepin yer hands warm while still being able to maintain a grip on your gear shift / buttons / etc. they're awesome work gloves to boot!

I agree.
I wear 'em too.
They help keep my hands clean, especially when driving different vehicles during the day that others don't bother keeping the steering wheel clean, and they offer a better grip on the steering wheel.

But I only wear them while driving. I don't wear them as a fashion statement. And I'll admit, when I see drivers wearing them in the truck stops, it makes me chuckle.
