| Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH "You simply do not understand the average system a otr driver must follow, your husband hauls cars, he is not trying to make 550-660 miles in a driving shift. He can make up time in the loading and unloading process, we dont have that option so we cheat with speed." as posted by earthbrown..... Number one , dont tell me that I do not understand the average system an otr driver must follow, my hubby makes just as many miles a day as anyother otr dirver, he gets paid by the loads droped per week, so yes his paycheck is directly related to the speed he drives. Secondly, "I would say tailgating and aggressive driving are more to blame than speed, simply blaming speed is ignorant." I am not sure but isnt tailgating aresult of trying to drive faster than traffice around you?One sign of aggressive driving someone who speeds, and/or tailgates???? AND just so you know I am not now nor have I ever been ignorant in my thought process. I simply said "supertruckers" who think they have a right/reason to drive as fast as they possibly can are a danger, its a fact they are. You can try and justify bad behavior any number of ways, but it is still bad behavior. Glad to see earthbrown was bold enough to post his other bad habits on a bike no less...isnt one of the first lessons your taught when you drive a bike to ride like others on the road cant see you???...that would lead me to NOT speed, or pass in posted no passing zones...glad I dont carry your insurance.

| Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH Speeding is not the problem. Lack of driver training and common sense is. I have ridden 80-100k on my motorcycle since i was 16. And as a rule in 55 zones i drive 70. This is because I need to move faster than traffic to avoid becoming the victim of a tailgater. People do not understand that a motorcycle stops in 1/2 the distance of a car. No accidents, but a few tickets. I...ahh....probably, 25-30 traffic citations in my life. But aside from taking a mirror off another truck my first day, NO ACCIDENTS(3 accidents where other driver either rearended me or turned in front of me). I am considered a high risk driver due to this. My friend has totaled 4 cars in 10 years and is concidered a better driver because, he was only issued minor tickets for which he pled out of, and 2 of the cars had no insurance claim. Answer this... How many people here regularly practice braking? On my bike I do this once a trip, I drive 60-70 and use the brakes to stop as fast as possable, it is somewhat preplanned, but I do it in different situations, from going straight down the road to going from being full lean in a corner. This keeps my skills practiced. This has helped me avoid a few accidents, some where I may have been at fault and some where a stupid distracted driver was at fault. In my car i do a similar thing, but abs and good equipment make it less important. Truck, no real ability to test this, however I will in slick conditions test the roadway at slower speeds by applying the brakes in a moderate fashion to test the traction of the surface. This is hard to do because you do not want to damage the load for a silly purpose. Truck safety is mostly paying attention, keep good following distances, watching trafic, if someone looks to be creeping at a stopsign i will slow or hit brakes so if they do pull out i am already on my way down. Stupidity kills not speed... GET RID OF CELL PHONES, DRIVE THRU's, and place points on licenses for accidents, tickets are not enough, as people plead out of tickets. I have pled out of speeding tickets, but simply speeding IMHO is not dangerous. K |

2. I cannot speed in the truck, except for states that are 55. I NEVER SPEED on secondary roads in the truck, to dangerous, I ususually drive 5 under in towns as I am looking for turns, cars, pedestrians etc. I also DONOT TAILGATE in the truck, or even pass slow vehicles on secondary roads. 3. On my motorcycle I DO RIDE AS I AM INVISIBLE. I drive invisible, this was taught to me on the bike, I have ridden longer than I have had a car license, a motorcycle was my first vehicle. 4. As I have said, MY ONLY ACCIDENT was in my companies yard where I took a mirror off a truck. I have been hit by 3 other drivers, wait 5 if you count the 2 minors, but have had 3 cars totaled by others. 2 of these were people turning left in front of me, both times I was on brakes and tried to avoid, but both times this was not enough. I have had close calls caused by others f-ups, which I sucessfully avoided, one was on christmas, this "gentleman" turned left heading into a driveway, 3 kids in the car and his wife, I missed him by about 2 feet. I called local cops and got the guy a christmas present, a ticket for failing to yeild, and for driving left of pavement markings. I avoided him by paying attention and knowing my vehicle. 5. Speeding alone does not make an aggressive driver. If I come apon a slower vehicle I keep a safe distance untill I can pass. All of my cars are turbo cars and I can drop a gear from 4 seconds back and pass the vehicle in less than a city block. Am I speeding durring the pass?? YOU BET, and probably at 90, I drop to 3rd and am at 90 from 50 in about 5 seconds. Then I slow and resume 65. On the bike hard to tell never timed it but 90 is about 3 seconds from the hammer drop at 50. I am in a passing lane for less than 6 seconds in most situations. Main reason to pass with agression is it keeps people from being able to speed up and keep me in the passing lane longer than it is safe, it is ridiculous how many people speed up when you try to pass them, they are more agressive than I. They are creating a dangerous situation by speeding up. Everyone has been a victim of the person who speeds up as you attempt to overtake. Again I would like to emphisize that I DO NOT drive fast in the truck, unless you count 60-62 in 55 states as fast. I am not a supertrucker, BUT I do know how to control EVERY vehicle I drive. K |

| Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH earthbrown, my hubby makes just as many miles as any other driver period, and as for multiple stops, nope he seldom gets a load with more than 2 drops on it, as for unloading its about 15-30 minutes per drop unless traffic is an issue with street access.....there is no removal/replacement of the sides, they are curtains, slide open slide closed takes about 2 seconds. Once again I will state I was making reference to the guys/gals that think they can drive however fast their turck will go and take pride in being a "supertrucker", that was and is my original point.

| Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH <<I do cheat a little in certain areas, namely the states I mentioned, as their speed limit is ridiculous. When traveling across OHIO for instance, I drive 60-62, with other truck traffic>>> Steal a nickel, steal a million, its all stealing. |

| Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH What's REALLY FUN is when these "super-truckers" pass me 3-5 times in one state because they wanna travel sooo fast as to "allow" them the time to stop and do whatever, then resume and pass me AGAIN. I've done this myself and it is simpleminded non-productivity. In California on I-10 from AZ to Banning, I would run at a minimum 60 with times at 65-70 depending entirely upon where I was and how many other trucks were around. I-40 from AZ line to Barstow and back to AZ, same formula. I-15 down the Cajon pass, well, one is descending so gravity applies as well as good brakes. I-15 ascending the Cajon pass, well, good luck. On I-10 after Beaumont, I would run according to traffic flow which meant at least 65. I have had CHP's pass me when I was rolling over 60 so I figured 5 over was acceptable as it is almost everywhere. I DO NOT ADVOCATE EXCESSIVE SPEED!! There are states that will punish drivers especially whilst travelling thru construction zones whether or not there are visible workers. There are mandated speed limits and these ARE regulated by the local constables that verily have a dim view towards dimwits, but I'm not castings aspersions, merely making a statement or formulating a sentence construct. What speeds some folk decide to incorporate whilst riding their Motorcycles is for the riders and not for me to pass judgement or offer critisism about. Ride To Live, Live To Ride. I don't ride Motorcycles since '97 or '98 therefore I have nothing to say about who rides where and/or at what speed(s) other than what I've said. There are quite many roads that when operating a combo and faster than the posted speed, one WILL garner negative results provided one is still breathing. Some roads can be driven upon at faster than posted speed during daylight however at night the rules change and of course the additions of Rain, Fog, Snow, Ice, Fatigue and ALL THE MORONS that have to roll with their bright lights on EVERYWHERE, play large parts as well. Seems a lot of "zeroes" cannot fathom the requirement to SLOW DOWN when negotiating off ramps with curves AND the entrance ramps/roads into rest areas. Every now and then some zero has to test Physics and is rewarded well for their efforts by the police and trucking company. The more things change, the more they stay the same!! |

| Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH earthbrown, There are many different types of trucks and trucking jobs. Do not presume to know every detail about every one of them. I'm sure she knows more about her husbands job than you do. As my husband is apt to say "You sir, are beating a dead horse". Play nice and God bless you. Julie
