Difference between stealing and speeding is obvious.

Stealing has a victim 100% of the time. Speeding rarely has a victim. This is proved by the fact that 100% of drivers speed at some point.

And I am sorry to think I know more than "luvmyhubby" as I am sure I do not, but this debate caused me to pole a few drivers over the last few days, and every driver said 2hrs minimum for them to load a full load of cars, assuming that they are ready to go. One driver said most times he spends 3hrs loading.

I assume that because he hauls for BMT, he picks up all cars in one area and they are staged. But there is still time involved in securing the cars down once they are on the rig. This is time consuming.

BMT's website indicated 2500mile a week average based on there average claimed gross, divided by the average mile pay. There are probably other wages earned inside the gross for loading and unloading that would lower the mileage. But overall car haulers spend more time on the clock unloading than 90% of otr drivers.

I am sorry, this went from a speeding discussion to others, my main point that while speed may be a factor in dangerous driving, speed limits are arbitrary and speed alone does not make someone dangerous. Ohio is case and point, there are many rural areas in ohio's interstate system, yet unless you are on the TP you have a 55 speed limit. The reason they raised the speed limit on the TP was to try to attract more trucks to the TP, thus increasing toll revenue. California has many VERY rural desert areas where 55 is simply too slow. California hates trucks, this is apparent by their nazi like tactics at weight stations, wasting drivers time to check papers, and inspect trucks.

Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH

When they raised the interstate speed limit to 65 mph in 1987, I said to my mom "That means we'll get to grandmas faster, right?" She kind of looked at me and said "Well, we've actually been driving 65 mph the whole time anyways". That day, my innocence was lost.

It’s easy to tell from your post that you are an intelligent person so I’m sure you understood the point I was trying to make w/steal a nickel. I also can’t believe that you would suggest we should only obey the laws we agree with yet that seems to be where you continue to drift. I to make many trips every year out west (CA) and agree that 55mph is nothing short of stupid out in the open desert, yet it is the law. When we, myself included, willfully and deliberately chose to disobey the law we by definition become criminals. A nickel or a million, 60 in a 55 or 90 in a 55, it’s still breaking the LAW!

Just remember – a Slower driver is more dangerous then a driver that is speeding.

Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH

It's not speed that kills. It's speed differential that kills. Speed limits notwithstanding, the more you depart from the speed of traffic, whether higher or lower, the more of a danger to others on the road around you you become.

But.....if you have a wreck, and somebody gets killed, and you are traveling above the posted speed limit, you are the one who goes to jail and who's family must suffer.............And it doesn't matter that who caused the wreck.
