Re: Drive the speed posted....DUH

I should have made the title of this thread,.....quit bragging about how stupidly fast you can go and how clever you think it is....didnt mean to cause a debate just wanted to draw attention to a NUMBER of posts on this forum where the drivers are bragging about their ability to hit high speeds and what a thrill it is for them.....

I appologize for the error....traveling with traffice etc is always up for discussion of course. I have seen posts on here lately of speeds over 85-90 mph....that is just STUPID in a rig or 4 wheeler was my thought.

Well, legally you would be correct. But realistically, the laws of physics are a more immediate concern to some people.

85-90 mph in a car out in the boonies is the norm around here.

I remember driving from here to San Diego and back one year for Christmas. We averaged 85-90 mph the whole way and on I-8, all we passed were big trucks, we got passed by everyone else including little old ladies in their big Cadillacs.

how great you are, go to the track and prove it, get a trophy and mount it to the hood of your truck, BUT when your on the roads shared by other drivers QUIT SPEEDING.
Hey, I don't always agree with u, but that's great. I think a lot of people speed on the road bcuz they're trying to get back at the man. Like 'they're always screwing us, so why shouldn't I be above the law sometimes too?' People also say, hey 5mph or 10mph over the speed limit is not that bad, it's those that go like 30 over that r the problem. No, you're the problem. Guess what, speeding is one of the few laws that u can't say, 'well bending the rules a little isn't gonna hurt that much, YES IT DOES, SPEEDING IS THE #1 CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS. U want to ask these people the question, "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it, too?" and not mean it as rhetorical.

I always drive the posted number, and am pretty much getting passed constantly, the only time I ever pass anyone is when they're hauling some unsecured things or they're real old or they're looking for the right exit. Maybe overgeneralized but to the few who don't speed, I commend u. We're in a very select bunch, bcuz I basically never see anyone doing the posted speed.

Oh, ok, alright all of us who don't speed, we should all start going 10 over....But then as soon as the speeders realize we're able to get away with it, then they'll go an additional 5mph, then we'll catch up to them, and a few weeks later they'll say everyone's going 85mph and no one's getting pulled over. Why not make it 90? Also, to comment on Earthbrown w/ the cellphones, and all that stuff, I would say yes, if everyone stopped all that the # of accidents would definitely decline, now wouldn't u say that if everyone resolved to quit speeding, the accidents would go down. I would luv an honest answer here.

that is a very interesting scenario.
i notice that 5-7 over is most often an acceptable practice. but then the "really impatient" people would up that by a few.

if the "normal" drivers bumped it a few more then the "impatients" would climb a few more to get around these "stragglers".

maybe they need progresive lanes. XX speed in the far left, XX in the middle or XX in the right.

there are some VERY COMPELLING ARGUEMENTS on all sides of this issue.
but if the slower traffic kept right like the signs suggest. and didn't try to use their form of "vigilante justice" by trying to block people going faster than the posted, IMHO. that would create the closest to a compromise to the speed issue on hi-ways.

whoever made the comment above (EARTHBROWN i think) about revenue production i agree completely.
i have traveled on interstate hi-ways where the speed suddenly goes from 65-70 ALL THE WAY TO 50-55 in 1/4 -1/8 mile. that IMHO is a misuse of the system (speed trap)

the comment that I made about 'slower drivers are more dangerous then faster ones’

It is true, But I think 5 to 10 mph over posted limit on interstate highways is ok with the bears here.

But someone going 50 on a 70 mph limit is a BIG hazard, especially with no 4 ways on…

I think the min speed show be 60….my opinion.

They might as well have saved themselves some time in doing that because from what I have seen there arent to many who go the speed limit.

I don't care what you are driving....Faster then a speeding bullet is all they seem to know. It's rediculous.
Most people will try to get away with anything, especially speeding. Can you imagine if we didn't have posted speed limits. It would look like a qualifying session for the Daytona 500. Or, better than that, imagine if it were not against the law to kill someone. We definately wouldn't have to worry about this country becoming over populated. In general, most people I see on the road every day obey the laws within reason, it's just that this society has it's outlaws that think they have something to prove.

I strongly disagree with going above the posted limits being the main cause of accidents. 20mph over the speed limit is not unsafe in some areas. Most accidents are caused by driver inattention or driving TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS,such as on icy or slick roads. AND don't get me started on the idiots that ride the left lane for no reason.
