What is up with todays drivers!!!

Man I wonder what has happened to the "Brotherhood of truckers" out on todays highways!!! I am 32 years old and have grown up around trucks and heavy equipment all my life, My dad was an O/O for many years before sucumming to a fatal heart attack and he tought me just about everything I know about trucking....The old school way!!! When I see a truck on the side of the road, I ask if he/she is OK and help any way I can!!! Apparently that is no longer the way things are done!!!
The other night I smoked a big buck coming out of Mendossa, Manitoba. I had a big rig riding my bumper, an oncoming car and this deer just came outta nowhere and as I was passing the oncoming car, I struck this deer. I couldnt go to the right as there was no shoulder, obviously couldnt go left cause of the car coming, and couldnt slam on the brakes because the rig behind me woulda punted me to the moon!!! So needless to say I nailed Rudolph!!! So I threw my right signal on and began slowing down to pull over and inspect the damage.... Not only did the truck behind me not ask if everything was OK, he never so much as moved into the other lane when I did stop!!! As a matter of fact he nearly took my mirror off and blew right on by me!!!{What} is with todays drivers???? I mean c'mon!!! I have seen some weird [EDIT]characters for drivers, but I would help a fellow driver any time!!!! So there I was on the side of this road for nearly 3 hours splicing air lines back together and repairing CAC hoses at midnight in minus 10 weather without so much as a check from another driver!!!
Later on that day as I was coming into Saskatoon, SK there was some construction ahead and traffic was backed up, Nothing too serious, but it was a slow go for a bit....I was watching as 4 wheelers were going thru the median and turning around to seek alternate routes....There was a 4 wheeler in front of me and it was a lady driver, Obviously late for work as she also did the median flip!!! I cruised on past her and noticed as I was now about a 1/4 mile away that she was stuck in the median in about 6inches of snow.... Keep in mind there are trucks behind me as far as the eye can see. So I radioed to the trucks behind that seeing as how we werent going anywhere that maybe a couple guuys could give her a push....Its not as if it wasnt safe to do so, traffic was extremely light in the other direction and it was not moving in our direction at all!!!! Well my god you would think I had asked them for 10 million dollars!!! Geez the comments I got were enough to make me hang my head in shame and call myself a driver....Comments were anywhere from "dumb [EDIT] serves her right" to "Is she good looking?" What [EDIT] difference does it make if she is good looking????? She obviouosly could have used a hand and all it would have taken is 2 or 3 minutes and we could have gotten her out. About all it would have done is improved the truckers image in a persons eyes and made her day just a bit better!!! Instead some cracker offered to call a towing outfit from his cell phone for her!!! Probably wound up costing her $100 or so to do what we could have done in a couple of minutes!!!

Geez this crap pisses me off!!!! Then they wonder why the trucker has the image of a mindless heathen!!!! Keep in mind guys and gals a good deed here and there goes a long way!!!!
My vent is over sorry!!!

Perhaps the drivers have had a bad experience with helping someone out.

well personally i don't help out anyone, male, female, young, old, whatever. in fact, i never did stop, ever. and why should i, so that i can be robbed or hijacked? nope, you're broke down, you're on your own just like i am when i breakdown. no one ever stopped to help me, so i reciprocate in spades towards others. this lesson i learned pretty much from my very first breakdown experience many years ago.

yeah, i guess so. "up there" maybe the people are nicer than "down here", but down here its just the way it is. i once worked for a trucking company now "defunct" and we used to haul cigarettes, and alcohol. it was strickly forbidden to ever stop and help someone, even our own drivers, especially if their loads weren't cigs or booze. we had to keep on going, stopping only at "approved" truckstops, never any rest areas or service plaza's. but that was ok with me, as i didn't stop to help anyone period......

In VA a truck driver got shot and killed for stopping to help a lady motorist. Their was a male hiding in the car, Seems they wanted to rob someone.
That's why i don't stop, also u can call highway watch to send help to someone.
Also with the terrior alert in yellow u don't want to stop either. Just call the police don't risk ur'self getting hurt.

in a big rig i hate to say it but i don't stop either. it's just to dangerous. i will though call over the radio or if i see a 5-0 at the next rest area i inform them. with the qualcomm in the truck help is on the way (eventually). so your not leaving them stranded. if it's a car , here in ga we have highway assistance that runs the main roads and helps broke down vehicles. if i'm in a car i do stop and help, like push them out of the way of traffic. thinking of that, 2 weeks ago a lady ran out of gas at a light in the middle lane. nobody stopped to help her. she was very flustered. i stopped to push this SUV out of the traffic and happen to look over as i was pushing this vehicle. county sherriff smiled and waved, and while i was pushing said SUV city police slowed down and asked me to move my car cause i was blocking traffic. i kinda gave him a dumb look and obliged after i got her off the road. her freind brought her gas and i left.

Re: What is up with todays drivers!!!

What ever happend to help you're fellow man.
The guy who said he learned not to stop from his first breakdown experince, sir you should be ashamed of your self. there is not a driver that's been on the road a deciant amount of time, that has not been broke down. i myself was brokedown my 2nd day out on my own on i-94 in chicago for more then 11 hours. of course no one stoped (they could'ent even if they wanted to.) that did not make me say i will not stop for anybody anytime. If someone needs help for the love of god help them if it is all possiable. i am sorry, if you are scared that you will get robed then don't keep money on you, i never do when i'm trucking
you truly get what you put out maybe not in the short term but evetualy you do. And i don't buy youre reasoning for a seconed that breakdown had nothing to do with why you will not stop it's you. you would not have stoped for anybody before that breakdown and you are just useing that as an crutch.
