| I know everybody dislikes JB but They drive keeping plenty of space constantly between you and the vehicles ahead, also to avoid those packs like in that photo on rte90-just let them pass you. I personally can't stand someone on my butt and just the other day outta Albany going west on rte90 I had a truck on my butt for around an hour and at first I thought it was another jb driver. When I had enough I put my directionals on to go into the service plaza and good ol yellow freight wiggle wagon passed me by. As soon as he passed me and it was safe to do so I just pulled out and kept on rollin down the road. That's the only sure way to remove one of them that I know of. I've slowed down incredably before and couldn't shake that pesky 4wheeler so pullin in a service area works when nothing else does. stay safe Dave |

| I think JB Hunt requires a 6 second buffer between the front of your truck and whatever vehicle is ahead of you. WhenI went through their driving test to get a job, I had just gotten on the freeway. I cruised up to the speed limit and was asked by this "examiner" to back off. "Back off of what?" "The vehicle in front of you". "You mean that car up THERE?" "YES!". That car was so far ahead of me, that if it had run into a brick wall and stopped abruptly, I would have been able to come to a full stop long before getting anywhere near it. Although I thought that was a bit extreme, the idea is sound. I see tailgating all day long on this city's freeways - all kinds of vehicles. I see trucks a car length behind another truck going 60 mph and wonder what those drivers are thinking when they do that. Not long ago, I had a nice wake-up call: I was going 55 on one of the city's "inner loops", when I saw the vehicles in front of me totally STOPPED. I shut that truck down and got it stopped well in time to avoid any kind of collision. A vehicle had blown a tire, which sent everyone behind it cranking on the brakes. Hmm, I take it back, I think JB Hunt requires 7 seconds? |

| Convoy's? TrooperRat, When I am going to Seattle and climbing the hills above The Columbia River and then the hills East of Ellensburg WA , headed West, I drive a small pickup , tail gate is down and I place my vehicle in between Big Rigs as they crawl up the hill's. I do this because of the wind,( which is notorious) and I am going as slow as they are while other drivers are floored and going by us not much faster. Am I making it stressful for the Big Rig and their drivers? LilTruck Quote:

| Well, I guess each driver might have a different view of that. If I'm pulling a hill and the engine is cranking, I just don't want whoever's in front of me to slow down, hit their brakes, whatever - for NOTHING in front of them. I've done too much city driving, I really don't trust 4-wheelers at this point. In the far past, when people used to respect trucks and give them wide berth, it was a different story. I don't know WHO is driving that vehicle in front of me nowadays, if they are in front of me, I give wide berth. I can tell you, though, that some truckers will be extremely irritated if you pull in between 2 trucks, one of them being their's, especially on a hill. I also know drivers that will pull over in the emergency lane if a 4-wheeler is following behind them. They will literally stop their truck and MAKE that car go around them. As I say, I really think it's in the eye of be beholder. Personally, I'm not sure I would trust the TRUCK DRIVER in this day and age, watching all KINDS of crazy maneuvers being done out there in large, commercial truciks. |

that's exactly why when someone tail gates me, i first slow down so they will go around me, if they are still on my ### 5 seconds later i'll tap the brakes as a warning, if they are still there a few seconds later i hit the brakes and make them slow down or run off the road to avoid hitting me. I've caused one accident this way (when i was 18yrs old) and the person ended up running off the road into a ditch and flipping their car... and now they are paralyzed from the waist down... do i feel bad? hell no i don't, he was stupid enough to risk his own life and endanger mine just because he was a damn idiot who should of planned ahead and given himself more time. I do this while pulling a 53ft trailer and while I'm driving my personal vehicle. |

| How about when you are staying behind another truck with a good following distance....then a truck passes you, gets between you and the other truck.

| WDS tells us to leave 6 to 8 seconds following distance for speeds above 30mph and 4 to 6 under 30. Before I started driving professionally I used to tailgate, now I try to avoid it at all costs and get uptight when someone is right behind me. What upsets me in the city is if you leave 2 car lengths in front of you open, a fourwheeler will surely pull in, Inches from my bumper. |
