I have never riden in anything BUT a reefer. Yes its loud but unless its right behind you its is no louder than another truck running.
David leaves Dalhart full and deadheads back to dalhart as far as mission tx. So half of the time I spend with him its empty. One time while we were loaded with the reefer running to keep it at 55 degrees. A dry box was next to us and I heard it over "Gus" and the reefer.
Qualcom is monitering the temp and even if the tractor has unhooked. The company knows and keeps up with that info.
I have never seen a reefer driver "leave" his load. Who wants to deal with a rejected load?
Next time you reach for that ice cream , Milk, soda, beer, potato chips, or anything eles that has to stay cool or the label glue needs to stay a certan temp, has to be transported in low humidity, ect think about is that reefer really that loud?
Come on drivers there are enough people who grip and complaign about ALL Truck Drivers we dont need to fight amongst ourselves. ALL Drivers work hard and do a thankless job with very little support how about supporting each other???? Hmmmm I thought this place was all about support, not one against another.

What he was talking about was drivers who drop their reefer and park elsewhere, so they don't have to listen to the noise, which I have never heard of, nor have I ever seen.

I have to pull a reefer on the dedicated account I'm on. I try to park where it won't be a bother but time of day can determine where you end up. If possible I pull in to help eliminate the noise. I too would rather have a reefer next to me rather than a livestock truck. Most of those drivers around here try to park somewhere out of the way though. Oh and don't tailgate a livestock truck. I watched some guy right on a bull rack get his windshield washed. He didn't appreciate it but I thought it was kinda funny

Don't think so.

First of all, I don't see this as being a 'reefer' driver thing. I can safely say after pulling reefers for years that if it's NOT running, I can't sleep. I've actually had incidents where I woke in the middle of the night, knowing something was wrong but not what, got dressed and checked the reefer and sure enough, it had shut down. So I can't see someone dropping their reefer in a spot and moving away from it to park. Not anyone who normally pulls reefers anyway. Unless of course, JB Hunt is pulling refrigerated now. If that's the case, all bets are off.

I can vouch for the fact that us old drivers DO hunt to find the oldest, loudest reefers we can off the yard. Loud pipes makes for better dreams.

All I've ever pulled is reefers, and I would never drop my trailer and then go somewhere else to sleep, that's just plain stupid, unless you have some bizarre desire to call your company and tell them that the trailer and load got stolen because you thought you could sleep better.

On top of that though, when I was still a rookie in training, my trainer suggested that the polite thing to do in truck stops was to park next to other reefer trucks so as to avoid waking up other drivers. This has stuck with me through the years now, and I still make a concerted effort to park beside other reefer trucks. Of course, if there's only one spot open and it's between two flatbeds, I'll go ahead and take it. If it's possible to nose-in I will, or I'll park further back if i can to get the reefer a little bit further away from their sleepers.

It's really not that difficult for us to show some consideration for each other.

Of course, with the growing popularity of APU's, drivers are going to start having to get used to engine noise again, I think. I have a Carrier ComfortPro on my truck, and it is a bit noisy sometimes.

Lets get this right! 1) livestock back row. 2) Reefers row three. 3) Vans row two. And I'm going to give front row to flats since a few have a backing up issue. Please, I pull a Reefer and you bet your bottom "Dollar" if theres a parking space in the front row looking me right in the face with my name on it I'm taking it!!!

Let me tell you what "Bullhaulers" and "Reefer" Drivers work just as hard as everone else! Droping a Trl or anything else for that matter its a Truck Stop!!! O'h I'm sorry "Travel Plaza" "GET A GRIP"

Well this sums it all up...good post.

How many complain about reefers and will have the nerve to wake our arses up and ask us to move? How many of you complaining about reefers parking next to you have no problem moving when the "bull hauler" shows up. Just pretend us reefers are bull haulers and move if you don't like it.

As far as leaving a reefer and moving to another spot.....time to complain at that point. But make sure he didn't drop the trailer and head for home or to get it worked on across the street. I've never seen anyone drop a reefer and move to a quieter spot but then I try not to sleep in truck stop.

I could park out in the middle of nowhere and a reefer would park next to me. I have learned just to go over to their truck and turn their reefer off or crank the heat. Nothing pisses me off more than a dumb reefer driver parking next to a bunch of vans when he has the whole lot to choose from

I don't mind parking next to a refer, it's just part of the job, they have a right to be there too and I've gotten used to the sounds.

BUT....if one left his trailer there just to go park somewhere else to get away from the noise, that would make me mad....plus you have to think he's taking two spots. Most truck stops don't allow dropping your trailer, though I'm not sure I've ever seen it enforced.
