This may sound funny, but in the South I wear a Mossy Oak hat, you'd be surprised how much further you get faster with this small tactic. Be forewarned, have some type of hunting/fishing story to share.

It sort of just depends on where you are. I've lived in the South all my life and, despite generalizations, everyone in the South isn't a fisherman and a NASCAR fan. New Jersey is typically considered a place where rude behavior is the norm, but I was offered free drinks from Newark locals when they saw my U.S. Navy hat. You might get a different response by wearing a Texas Longhorns logo in Oklahoma, or a Sooners logo in Texas. It all just depends on where you are. I doubt that your Mossy Oak hat would evoke much of a response in Huntsville, AL, Birmingham, or Atlanta.

True, but the majority of the place I have been it has solicited a good response. I live down here most of my life as well, and like you said, some places yes, some places no. Go to Tampa and it won't do crap for you, but cross the county line into Polk County, and it's like a freakin halo. The places it seems to work better at are the ones where you have face to face contact with loaders. Like a place we pick up spooled cable in SC, or the Scott's factory in AL.

Point taken... I was just trying to steer you away from the pitfall of overgeneralization, i.e., "All women in Boston are debutantes, and all people from the South are rednecks." I've lived in the South long enough to know that the type of ball cap you wear isn't going to make or break the perception of the general public.

Oh, and a true Southerner doesn't really consider Florida as a legitimate Southern state. My personal theory is that it broke off from California in the Mesozoic Era and floated around...

Heh. Again, the part of Florida depends of the "Southerness" of it. There are some parts here that I wouldn't get caught saying that... They may be so inclined to prove you wrong!

Just a joke. I'm actually rather fond of Florida. Lived in Orlando for awhile in the mid 80's.

No worries. I completely agree with the statement. Go over to the Gulf Coast and you'd think a piece of Canada broke off and floated down and around.

Well, you might not wanna hear this, but appearance reflects both on you and your company. Whether you care or not is entirely up to you, but I doubt that your threats of attorney intervention has much teeth and, even if it does, I doubt that it can make much of a bite.

One drizzley snowy icy day in February I had to chain up and chain off 4 times while going through Washington and Idaho. At the end of this I looked like a drowned rat that had fallen into a grease pit. Anyone looking at me at that moment probably wondered where I had escaped from. The thing was though that the rest of the truckers looked about the same. Trucking isn't always the cleanest of jobs.
