The thing was though that the rest of the truckers looked about the same. Trucking isn't always the cleanest of jobs.
Very true. My first trucking job was with a flatbed company and at the end of the first week, I picked up a load in Savannah, Georgia. The rain was pouring in buckets and had transformed the shipper's yard into a huge mud pit.
By the time I had tarped and strapped my load in this veritable pigpen, I probably looked like a creature that had emerged from Scape Ore Swamp in South Carolina. I was covered in mud and muck, my feet were wet, and I had sprouted a world-class blister on my right hand. One of the bungee cords had popped off and snapped me in the forehead so, I supposed that I was wearing an impressive knot too.

However, there's a big difference between this, and a driver who refuses to shower regularly and does not care how he/she is perceived by the public. No one expects a truck driver to look like the CEO of a fortune 500 company, but it isn't asking too much for a driver to take a shower and throw on a fresh pair of jeans and a tee shirt on a regular basis.

EXACTLY!!!

I normally wear jeans with a Polo that says my company name, logo, my name and even owner on it. I also attempt to shower daily (occasionaly i miss a day). Anyways I unload my trailers from time to time when I haul office furniture and I was in Omaha, NE unloading my trailer and I was drenched in sweat from top to bottom. When I went to pick up my next load the guys had to have smelt me a mile away but I always try to look and smell good out there. After all I am a business man running my own wannabe fortune 500 company.. hahahaha

I wonder how many drivers actually use deodrant or cologne? You would be amazed how better you can smell after sweating all day with slapping some deodrant and colgone on.
