| A Warning To All Members Who Post Here This post comes off of another board, but it carries a message that everyone out there that posts on this board should be aware of. The driver that did this was definitely in the wrong, since you do not have a right to back up to and intentionally "bump" another trailer, whether it hangs over into your parking space or not. But, by posting his tale on a trucking forum on the internet, he exposed himself to other drivers, who were pretty much unanimous in their opinion that he was in the wrong. And one of those drivers got on the phone to the company safety office and reported the thread. This morning, Monday, he had a meeting with the saftey department, and was charged with not reporting an accident, and bringing discredit upon the company in his off duty time. And, he was fired from his job. He's a good driver, and will find another job, but this never had to happen. If you post on here, use some common sense and be aware of the possible consequences of what you are posting. If you confess on here to making a mistake that you did not inform your employer about, they may find out about it and you could be terminated from your job. This driver made that mistake, and will now be facing some time without a paycheck, loss of insurance coverage, and other penalties because he didn't think before he posted. His initial post in the thread is below: "I come into the Flying J at Wytheville and find me a hole to back into and I see I'm getting close to the trailer behind me so I ease up against it so my nose isn't sticking out too far and set the brakes. I see I'm still sitting out about 6 to 8 feet and as I look back I see the flatbedders flood lights come on and out steps a scruffy looking guy in bib overalls. He walks over to my door and knocks and says " Do you know you hit my (edited) truck?" No I eased up against your trailer because you left about 6 to 8 feet of it in my stall. "Well it aint your trailer to hit so next time get out and look." OK next time you park, you get out and check that you aren't hanging into the next stall. Those lines are painted at about 70 feet. "Well (edited) you!" I laughed and told him to go back to bed. He walks away and takes a swing at my airlines and cut his hand...... Then he spit on my trailer." |

| This really should become a sticky. I agree, people need to think before they type. Employers are just as tech savvy as we are if not more. Many employers are checking Myspace to see if there are things to be concerned about for new hires. Very good advice Burky.

| I didn't post this to scare people away from posting on here. If something happens and it is worthy of being told, then so be it. But you can always blur a few details like locations and make the story so that it cannot be traced back to you as an incident. Fudge a few details that don't change the basis of the story, and you can easily post. I just don't want someone losing their job as a result of what they post here. At the same time, our very existence as a site is based on having folks post their stories and comments, so all we want is for you all to use a little bit of caution where it is needed. |
