It's a USA/large city thing to have to move over for a broken down car, by the way. I never heard of it before until I went OTR with Mike. It just isn't done here or expected to be done.

I agree it's a great idea and a good thing to do. I don't think you should have put the hammer down. I think you should have just let him go on his way. He was being a jerk, let him be a jerk all by himself!!

The disrespect on the road in all aspects is just getting worse and worse as time goes on.

Today I saw it again. I had a USF truck pass me. He came back over. After about a mile I could see a broke down RV on the shoulder. I went to the hammer and good ole USF just stayed right there. I know he saw it. I was behind him and I saw it. The RV was just a rockin when he blew by it.

It is no wonder why you clean the winshield some times and it looks like crap. Just walked by the fuel island and some yardbird was scrubbing his fuel tanks with the windshield scrubber. Some of these jokers think the fuel island is a blue beacon.

Bullhauler's wife, both my kids took full courses in learning to drive. It's a requirement here now to get a full license to take a night course or a full course so I opted to get them the full course (at $500 each!!!) but they are better drivers than I was at their age! LOL Especially my son, he is VERY careful when he drives, makes complete stops, etc.

As you said, inexperienced drivers cause a LOT of accidents and I didn't want mine to join that crowd!!

driving courtesy

As the father of 4, one about to get his permit(God am I really that old?) I have already told him that he WILL come for a ride with me to learn some things that I know won't be covered in training. I was thinking about how to drive around big trucks. You know, following distance, staying back if a truck is going to be making a right turn etc.. Know I think there will be a lot more that he hears about! Like it or not! As to the discourteousness of "professional" drivers, it really does surprise me. I have only been out here a short time but the way some people talk on the cb? Almost makes me wish I hadn't bought one. And the number of times I get a "taillight flash" after signaling or radioing it was safe to come back over is sad. And no, I don't flash my brights at night! I would expect some abuse if I did that. I guess having a truck governed at 65 isn't so bad, "sorry driver she's to the floor".

I know what you mean there Road medic. I am a certified EMT and I hate when those cars used to go by me like I wasnt there. Being in a nig truck I slow down AND move over. I just dont want to risk hurting anyone.

Apparently, I dont know if this is true, there is one state that does not have that law and a truck driver moved over for a police car that had a customer. THere were left lane restrictions in force so the cop chased the driver down and gave him a left lane violation ticket. THe driver told him that he was just trying to be curtious and safe. The cops answer was " well you would not have hit me".

I wonder about them bears sometimes!!!!

I don't know whats wrong with people now days, but I do know that many of my kids friends don't really know to move over, drive slow, etc. It drives me crazy, because I painstakingly took the time to teach each of my boys the responsible way to drive. But I know that a lot of parents fill out the hours requirements forms and fudge the training hours, let them get their license and send them off in their own car.

I was not comfortable with that. So I let them "chauffeur" me around everywhere for a whole year, while they had their permit. At least when they got their licenses, I knew that I could trust THEM behind the wheel.

Also everyone should keep in mind (at least in Indiana) no one teaches "any" driver about truck drivers. This is something I feel should definately be part of their test.

I would not know half the stuff I know about tractors/drivers visibilaty unless I worked for a company. I would not have a clue about a driver going around a sharp bend and his load jack kniffing, so now I stay BEHIND or INFRONT of the truck driver.

My kids have an advantage they learned about truck drivers, however what about those parents who don't even know what a truck driver is/does?

That's my problem it's an issue and no one see's it

That would be a great idea. I wish that was mandatory, how to deal with big trucks when you are a four wheeler. When I am in my car I will slow down to let trucks in and such as I know what its like to be there.

Another fool

I went to fuel today. When I pulled up to the island there was a western express truck pulled up past the pumps. I figured he was in paying for his fuel. I take on about 150 gallons of fuel, clean windows and I am ready to pull up. Well, ended up going in to get my reciept and when I got back out to the truck good ole W/E truck is still blocking me in. I don't mind if a guy pulls in and passes the pump and runs in and right out, but if I can top my tanks and clean my glass and there still is no sign of the driver in front of me then there is a problem. I had to go back in tell them to page goofball and say hey stupid move your truck.
