How Do We As Drivers Clean Up Our Own Industry?

I am seeing a common theme in a lot of the postings, ie; disgust with some of our fellow drivers and how their attitudes and actions reflect on our industry.

I would like to see a discussion about how we, the ones who have pride in who we are and what we do, can begin to take action and work towards cleaning up our image.

Any productive ideas out there?

We are a product of the society we have made for ourselves. It is not just trucking, but every part of society that needs to cleaned up. We as a society have made our bed and know must lay in it.

Lay down and let'em run over you?

Guess I have too much Irish in me, I don't accept the notion that we have no control over our destiny.

Or maybe it's a survival instinct that some don't have. There are always choices to be made. Making the right ones not only affects my future but all that I come in contact with.

I always try to treat my customers and the motoring public with patience and respect. I also refuse to let anyone ruin my day. Not one day goes by that someone does'nt tell me I'm in the wrong profession......because drivers are rude and crude.

That's it a nice relaxed driver!! Patience and respect is a huge deal too. It only takes one driver driving too fast and right up on someone's bumper to hurt the image. I was taught by many knights of the road many many years ago. These guys were on their way out on retirement but they still took the time to teach because they didn't want their name associated with a bad driver. The CDL schools have taken all that away.

I think that i would have to disagree with the fact that the "CDL Schools" caused this problem. I think that I remember learning proper manors in the home when I was real young.......If you are a rude and inconsiderate person. I dont think that it would matter if you went to a CDL school or you are trained by a Knight of the road in the end your still going to just be a rude and inconsiderate person that can now drive a truck..........just my 2cents

I am the same way I try to never get angry with a shipper or receiver, I try to treat 4 wheels with some respect.

But, 90% or the truck drivers (and everybody else) on the road are the me,me first generation. All you need to do drive in any of the major cities of this country. Today I watch a flat bedder tailgate a car with less then 3 feet between then in slow lane.

USA

1) Treat others as you would want to be treated .

2) We are the pro's out there . It takes a "real" driver to keep the truck / trailer combo. under control at all times , As well as the drivers temper .

Just a few thoughts that I have while I sit here .

1. Keep the roadrage in check....after all we are supposed to be the professionals.

2. Quit throwing your pee bottles out the window of your truck, littering the side of the highways. I mean, c'mon...at least pour it out in the dirt or something...

3. Check your bad attitudes at the door...be nice, be courteous and friendly, not only to your fellow truckers but to the general public.

List in order of "Most" Offensive Driver Behavior?

1) Tailgating a 4-wheeler so all they see is their grill.

2) Trash on the CB.

3) Not checking on a fellow driver along the road.

4) Litter ( truck stops, highways, rest areas).
