Oh Sooo TOO true!
Ontario and Mira Loma in SoCal come to mind.
And NEVER even to ATTEMPT to park a Big truck, even bobtail, in the Big Mall across I-10 from the Truck Stops.
They WILL tow you away -- QUICKLY.
They've even had their OWN delivery Big trucks towed and impounded while the driver was inside, tryin' to figure out where to deliver it. Directions!
Imagine that!

When at WalMart I try to park around back in the truck unloading area.
ExactlY!
Takin' up 25 lil car parking places, just so y'all can be in the front row, is just a tad rude.
Quote:
Not sure if the pavement is as thick in the car parking area as back there.
AnotheR good point!
Yer onna roll!
If y'all are rollin' HEAVY,
take it easy on the parking lots!
Sharp turnin' when heavy tears it up.
It don't get fixed for free.

Tear it up bad enough --- and I think it COULD be filed as an 'accident' report.
If y'all just drive away in the mornin' -- might that then be considered leaving the scene of an accident?
Something to think about, no?

If they are going to not allow truck parking they should get rid of RVs and their pets messing all over the parking lot.
Well, except for the pet-poop, I think your example just spreads the misery around.
EVERY RESPONSIBLE driver, be it Big truck or RV, should be allowed -- WITHIN LIMITATIONS -- to an exception to the rule.
And I find that to be true.
Exceptions CAN be made by the PROPER people FOR the PROPER people.
That's why I like the face-to-face approach.
But it's not 'cause I'm good lookin'.
Just Convincin'.
You see ...... I ain't really as ugly as I look.
Nor am I as old as I am, ......... yet.

I pulled into a WalMart outside of Dallas, TX. No sooner had I parked than a security vehicle pulled up. The security person asked me how long I was going to be there. I told him an hour or so, as long as it took me to do my shopping. He said no problem, he just came over because they had problems with trucks and trailers being dropped there for weeks at a time. I believe you should be able to park to do your business but a sack of groceries doesn't entitle you to days of free parking.
More good points!
And I agree.

But had you displayed a wize-azz "I'm entitled" attitude to security, you would have been treated the same?

HaiL!
I delivered to a remote K-Mart early, but too late to unload.
Notified security, --- no problemo,
Park here.

And WHILE I was there, eating AND shopping, I received the EMPLOYEES DISCOUNT!
And breakfast was on the house.
And the first breakfast they prepared that morning.

These various parking lots AREN'T truck stops OR campgrounds. To be allowed to utilize them is a gesture of good will. Return that good will.
Especially with the current economy.
I'm thinkin' there ARE folks who'll be relocating on a strict budget.
Like Big truck truckers, where they can stop safely and less expensive is limited.

We're all in a pickle, time to share what goes 'round -- comes back 'round.
Ya reckon.

I'm not real sure what a big truck trucker is either.
Now, if it's a Big truck trucker, or even a Big truck truck driver, I know what that is.

Damaging parking lots...if you try to stay on the concrete, damage should not be a problem, but that's not always possible. when I park at stores, I try to do so when I'm empty, or bobtail.
Remember, a trash truck does more damage to the parking lot than a loaded 18-wheeler!

Good point TLG.
And while y'all are remembering --- remember who MIGHT
get blamed for the damage caused by
a trash-truck, instead of who actually caused said damage.

I firmly believe, that if a Big truck truck driver meets the manager face-to-face FIRST, the chances are less likely that they'll be accused of doin' ANY damage to the parking lot.

Here's a helpful tid-bit -----
When y'all are treated shabbily, and decide to complain with a letter to corporate, that's one thang. But when y'all receive better than average treatment, like when a store allows y'all to park in their parking lot --- do y'all send a letter to corporate complementing their employees and/or policies?
Hmmmmm?

Now, if the store has rules against parking a Big truck in the parking, and they waive the rule for y'all, I don't recommend y'all mention that to corporate -- because y'all's thanx just might come back to bite that store's manager.
But y'all CAN be complimentary to the management for being helpful above and beyond what's normally expected.

Then, maybe down near the bottom of y'all's letter to corporate, mention how nice it would be if more of their stores allowed respectful Big truck truck drivers to park in their parking lot for y'all's federally mandated, 10 hour break.
Followed by how much that would be appreciated by the drivers who relocate freight.

I've done that letter writing to complement the employees who're down in the trenches, and who're often the first and only connection to corporate that most folks meet.
When was the last time a corporate suit & tie greeted y'all at the door?

Several times, I've received a nice letter from corporate in return for my efforts, --- and I appreciate that they not only took the time to read my letter(s), but that they took the time to reply.
So, if y'all think those letter go UN-read, think again.

At a local Homie Depot in my town, I contacted a manager to ask if a Big truck truck drivin' friend of mine could park his Big truck in their parking lot for a day or two while he visited me.

At first he balked and my request, stating that damage and trash had resulted, and they weren't anxious for that to be repeated.

I assured him that my friend IS a professional trucker, both in ability AND attitude, and would NOT be the type to bite the hand that feeds him. And emphasized that he wouldn't actually be spending much time in or with the Big truck he'll be parking there --- WITH their permission.
I also beat the manager to the punch by describing some of the rude, trashy things SOME drivers do -- and assured him that if my friend was the type to do those filthy things, I wouldn't be there talking with him face-to-face.

I also mentioned, as I pulled out a handful of Homie Depot store receipts --- that HIS store was and IS my first choice for my home improvement needs, and that the last thing I'd want to see is a trashy parking lot full of trashy Big truck truck drivers.
Not my style.

He thought about it for a few seconds, then asked me when my friend would be in town, and I told him. He then okayed my request, but requested that my friend touch bases with him, or another manager, before he set the brakes, so that they could tell him where they'd allow him to park. And finished with how he'd post a note for the other managers with my friends arrival date, so they'd be aware of the agreement.

Thank YOU very much!

After my friend's visit was over and I'd driven him back to his parked Big truck, I made sure I thanked the management of that store before I headed back home. As it turned out, I spoke with the same manager -- and made a note of his name.

Upon my return home, I composed a nice letter to corporate complementing that particular manager, and how VERY helpful he is, ---- stamped it and put it in the mail.

Several weeks later, while shopping at that store, the manager who okayed the request to park in his parking lot, recognized me and approached me.
So, you really DO shop at my store, is how he started the conversation.
I asked how things were goin' for him, and he said, funny you should ask -- explaining that for SOME unknown reason, his name was put on the short-list for an upcoming promotion.
Hmmmmmmmmm

Y'all don't suppose that letter to corporate had ANYthing to do with that, ....... do ya?

I didn't tell him I had written a letter to corporate to complement him, but I did say "maybe SOMEone wrote a nice letter about you, and sent it to corporate".

He said he couldn't imagine why someone would do that, but letters like that DO impress the powers that be Homie Depot.

I just said "as well they SHOULD" --- and we parted company so I could add to the corporate profits, and I could do some home improvements.
A win-win situation.

OH!
I almost forgot.
Before our brief conversation ended, he inquired about my friend, and asked if he planned to visit me again --- adding, if he did, they'd welcome him to park there again.. -- remarking about how nice his Peterbilt looked, and the customer attention it generated. It seems several customers had remarked about that Big truck in the parking lot, and all the comments were favorable.

Imagine that.

I've been pulled over 5 times in 2 months, on ticket was paid, cause the cop was a rookie and had a chip on his shoulder, the other was thrown out, cause the cop put down the wrong time on the ticket, the other 3 was polite and the cops rewarded me with no tickets..
