| Can't say that I've ever gotten a parking ticket at a Wal-Mart, and that doesn't sound like it's legal. If Wal-Mart had a problem with it, they would've just outright towed you. I thought parking tickets were for breaking city ordinances. |

| sprawl mart is handing out tickets now? I thought only law enforcement could do that?

| You did go back inside to the customer service desk and return all the items you just purchased, right? And you called 1-800-WALMART to let then know how you felt about being ticketed for being a customer, right? I won't even shop at a Walmart that has "No Trucks" signs plastered all over the place. At least there are still a few that are friendly to truck drivers... including one I saw out in Texas, near Abilene I believe, that has a separate truck parking area. I think a lot of people need to spend a day in the shoes of a truck driver: *to be hungry and see the restaurants all around you... but you can't get any food because there's nowhere to park your truck. *to have an urgent need to use the bathroom... but you have to wait because there's nowhere to park the truck. *to be tired... but not be able to sleep because there's nowhere to park the truck.

| i called walmart ( the store in utah) and they said they dont want trucks parked out front. we were issued a ticket by the city ( a guy in an city enforcement truck) . we found him later in the parking lot and he said he saw us pull in. well we asked why he did not tell us to move then, and he had no answer for that. we go to that walmart every week to shop, usually on a sunday , but this happened to be a weekday so maybe thats the reason. if i had not really needed the groceries i would have taken them back. time was an issue for me. so i will just pay the ticket and get on with life. |

| I, personally, have not been cited for parking at any Wal*Marts -- and as has been brought up already, I question the legality of a parking citation on private property. However, on several occasions I have parked in the parking lots of stores and malls with NO TRUCK PARKING and/or NO OVERNIGHT PARKING and/or CUSTOMER PARKING ONLY signs clearly posted AFTER a Wal*Mart manager clued me in on how to git 'er done withOUT receiving a citation. His advice ---- be a customer. Buy SOMEthing, ANYthing, --- and tape the receipt to the driver's side door window where the parking lot security can easily view it. So, I purchased a roll of Scotch Tape, and a few other things, and did as instructed. The results? No citation(s). I make it a point to contact a manager of the store and assure them that I'll leave NO pee-jugs or other trash upon my departure. And I've had favorable results by doing that. The managers alert security to leave me alone, but that didn't always work. On several occasions, security would sit right next to me in my Big truck, and we'd drink coffee and talk -- which I thought was pretty cool. As an added bonus, them parking next to my Big truck was added security for me. Stores CAN make exceptions to the rules of the parking lot IF they have a mind to. Meeting managers face-to-face is an ice-breaker, and once they realize that you're not going to trash the lot, they're usually pretty understanding. Now, if I'm under a load for that particular store, and they WON'T let me camp out until my morning delivery, I inform them that if I'm forced to git on down the road, I won't have enough legal hours left on my logbook to return, and they'll have to wait for my hours to build up enough to make the return trip, which, now-a-daze, could be more than 30 hours. Then add ---- so, if y'all aren't in a hurry for what's in my wagon, I'll take my leave and be back in a couple of days. Which is usually followed by them informing me that what's on my wagon is product that has been advertised as "ON SALE" in all the newspapers, and they "gotta have it now" because they don't want to have to issue rain-checks. Too much hassle, not to mention irritated customers who don't find the sale items they made a special trip to purchase. (I call that "good grief" -- and I use it to MY advantage.) Hmmmmmmmmm At that point, I remind them that the solution to that problem rides on THEIR decision to allow me to park there overnight. Know what I hear then? "Ok, I guess it'll be all right --- but just for tonight." That's ALL I ask! Communication can be a beautiful thang. ![]() |

| Some jurisdictions have by-laws against parking commercial vehicles in certain areas, even if those areas are zoned commercial. When at WalMart I try to park around back in the truck unloading area. Not sure if the pavement is as thick in the car parking area as back there. If they are going to not allow truck parking they should get rid of RVs and their pets messing all over the parking lot. I pulled into a WalMart outside of Dallas, TX. No sooner had I parked than a security vehicle pulled up. The security person asked me how long I was going to be there. I told him an hour or so, as long as it took me to do my shopping. He said no problem, he just came over because they had problems with trucks and trailers being dropped there for weeks at a time. I believe you should be able to park to do your business but a sack of groceries doesn't entitle you to days of free parking. |

If in doubt, ask. Most reasonable people will let you park for a short time. It's the abuse of that privilege that makes us look bad to everyone else.
