whats the deal with truckers appearance??

Drivers, i need to no this. and i may offened people, and i am not trying too..
but why are thier so many dirty drivers out here?
it makes no sense to me at all. i do tailgate service. ill break that down for you, i take the freight to the doors of my trailer. its hot in the trailers. but i have to do my job to bring in the checks. i do multi stops a day, mon-friday. i live in my truck sun-thursday, i bust my rear un-loading a trailer, and i bust my rear even harder on the hotter days because the heat irratates peopl. sometim ill spend 3 hours unloading at one stop.
a lot of these dirty driver i speak of are no touch freight driver.... they drive, all the time. never touch the cargo, open the doors and thats it, and most of them are sooo grimy, nasty, looking like they were digging in the dirt all day, look like they have not had a shower in days, maybe even weeks..... i get nasty and sweaty, and ill go outa my way to get a shower in, cause most people judge you on you first appearence. and first appearence is everything....
so, what is the reason for being so nasty?
and if anyone took offense..... i guess im sorry? maybe.

Some people just don't care that much about themselves. Not all truckers are like this.

AGREED! Can't classify all truckers in this category as I work in a company that has a dress/hygiene code to some degree, that extends thru to the office personnel, to anyone working at each terminal.

Some people don't care how they appear to others, some of us just find it hard to get to the barber very often; we don't all get to the big truck stops where there is someone around to do that. Most weeks, I don't go by anything bigger than the Pilot at Clear Lake, IA.

I try to keep showered, but as soon as I back under a trailer, my clothing is dirty, it just goes with my current job.

I was with the hubby the other day at the local truck stop and this guy walks in, no laces in his boots, pants could have stood up on their own and the minute he hit the door, you could smell him. I felt so sorry for the girls behind the counter, that had to deal with him and smile.

Hubby has never smelled that bad, even after getting cow doo all over him.

I'm sure that guys truck just wreaked.

Personally, I think that its a matter of pride on ones self. I do know that there were times, when my hubby couldn't get a shower that it about drove him nuts. He isn't real big on baby wipe baths.

I can not stand being dirty. The longest I can go without a shower is about 48 hours. I am also very particular about the cleanliness of my truck. My brother inlaw on the other hand is one of those nasty truckers. He will go days without showering. I guess buying his crack rocks is more important than paying to wash himself.

It is a matter of pride in oneself, the profession and the employer. Respect for drivers should start at the front office, and the entire company will look better. I remember when companies provide uniforms and motel rooms. Here I am preparing to run team with the vice-president of Parkhurst Manufacturing on a load of truck platforms from Sedalia to Corpus Christi. We wore white shirts and clip-on ties. The company also provided uniform from Unitog.

ok, im glad to see that i am not the only one that feels this way, the " dirty " drivers prob wont ever read any of this, and you are " dirty " and your reading this please tell us all why you are as dirty as you are....
and i am not talking about the local contruction worker driving dump truck ( altho i have seen trashmes, on the dog days of summer looking clean and smelling good too ),
i feel as tho that these are the driver that are hurting our " truckers image ". i NEED a shower at a MIN! of every other day. if i go more then 2 days without a shower, i start to freak out, iv gone so far as to get a hotel room for 15 mins just to take a shower if non is available for me anywhere.
i agree with everyone here, however, im not talking about haircuts and shaving, thats the least of it.
but there is no reasson for someone NOT to be able to brush your teeth everyday. i do. and i do it in my truck. ---- bottle water + toothbrush + open window = clean teeth for the day....
deodrant, sold at every truck stop, or most gas stations,
im sorry, but i do not want the title of a truck driver if the general public thinks of us as nasty people.
i always have clean cloths on, hair is always brushed, never the " bed head " look. teeth brushed, and i always wear gloves to keep my hands clean
laces in my shoes, always tied. truck is ALWAYS spotless. never any trash on the dash, floor. just clean,
