A couple of years ago I had the family on vacation and we were travelling on I80 through PA when some jerk with a flatbed hauling cement drainage pipe was driving about 1 foot off my rear bumper in the hammer lane. Knowing that hitting the brakes even a little could have made a bad situation worse, I went even faster to pass the reefer in the right lane (we were doing about 85 mph by now) and got back over as soon as I could. I was barely out of the lane when this jerk in the flatbed blew by me. Not even a minute later I saw the disco lights behind me and I got pulled over. At first I was really pissed because I had no choice but to speed up to save the lives of my family. The officer told me not to worry about it, that I was only getting a warning. About 2 miles down the road I noticed that Mr. flatbed was pulled over on the other side of the entrnce ramp by 2 state troopers who had him out of the truck. My point is that sometimes the really IS a cop around when you need one.

Even though I have some issues with the smith system it is still a good Idea. What are the five keys you should have been taught either in a safety meeting or in a training class. Well if you forgot here they are. I know someone is going to ask so here it is. My main issue is this, the 4-wheelers should go through this training and pass, before they are issued their license..

1) Aim high in steering: Avoid collision by evaulating and acting upon all iformation available.

2) Get the "BIG" picture: fewer mistakes are made when you have the complete traffic picture.

3) Keep your "eyes" moving: Proper scanning techniques seperate safe drivers from people who make costly and daily errors.

4) Leave youself and out: All the seperat drivers from a collision is space. Use it to your advantage.

5) Make sure "they" see "you": seek eye contact and use your warning device at the proper time..

It's that "Super Trucker" attitude. he's gotta be first at all costs, god forbid that someone might slow him down. I understand why the general public doesn't like trucks when I see one of these guys driving up some cars ( or trucks) ###

I must be doing something wrong because I can't afford to run 80 mph, I guess these guys can.

Correct me if I am wrong! Limit Means top speed allowed by Law. If he is running 64 in a 70 that is above the common 55 interstate Minimum. So speaking as someone that took 2 semesters of Pre-Law(Like that matters) But also as someone with common sense. Yea it would if a truck running 64 gets run over from behind by a truck running 70 in the right lane. Yea the 70 mph guy is DEAD WRONG!
