These United States of America founded upon the pursuit of freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for everyone that chose to come to this great land with a desire to pursue a dream of prosperity. To escape the tyranny of oppressors that desire to trample upon the less fortunate in the pursuit of greed and power.
It is said that corporations and the present-day power and money hungry entrepreneurs continue to prosper seeking their fortunes while taking advantage of others. The middle and lower class working peoples of this nation sacrifice greatly so that the upper and ultra classes can enjoy privileges that is only available to them because of their monopoly of the money power play positioning of their class. The middle and lower classes work endless hours just to provide the basics and maybe a few extras for their families, as well as shed their blood in wars abroad to protect the interest of these same upper classes and corporations, plus to maintain the freedom afforded to the peoples of the USA.
While there is great need by us all to understand that our world is not so big that we cannot afford to ignore the impact of the global economy and society, but there is still a great need for a continued focus on the issues here at home in the USA. We are the leader of the free world, but as a leader we should take a huge step in showing that we can continue to make our country the best place to live and prosper.
When I read of the CDL mills and the large companies that seek out desperate and ill-advised people to be sucked into servitude for a 8-months to a year as cheap labor in order to pay for a 3-week school that cost anywhere from $2,000 to $8,500 only to be told later that if they leave that field of OTR employment for a significant period of time that the person will have to start over again as a newbie re-attending a refresher course despite the fact that the person may have driven for a prior period of 5-years or more.
The OTR trucker’s life is a hard life not suited for everyone just as everyone is not suited to be a brain surgeon, teacher, or sales person. Yes, there is much adversity and challenge in the daily life of a trucker, but there is room for freedom, allowance of individual nature, and job satisfaction for a job well done.
I have listen and read about truckers complaining about the negatives of the industry such as low miles, low pay, too much time sitting without pay, and other various forms of abuse.
It is my opinion that until the labor force (drivers) unite to voice their complaints in union, then there will be no change since these corporations will continue to monopolize and take advantage of the ignorant, disadvantaged, untrained and just because they are allowed to continue to do so.
But if the drivers will not unite, as which it appears they will not, then each driver will have to strive for his own terms that he/she can live with and adapt to survive.
There are bullies in our lives and we have to determine if we are going to be bullied and/or taken advantage of, or stand up even if we suffer in doing so for what is right.
