Charity Begins At Home

Hello All,

Not sure how this post will be received, but in answer to the questiion posted by this board...

The Truckers' Image Under The Driver's Hat. Discuss ways for truckers to improve their image. Urine bottles, trashy truck stops and no truck parking signs abound. How do we change our image and earn respect back?

...I have to say, a great place to start is at home... right where you live, ...including this forum.

I've seen, met, helped, and worked with alot of truckers these past few years. I've seen all types. Wonderful salt-of-the-earth people, ...but I've also seen those who make me cringe inside, and while they may be nice people, ...I wouldn't want to be seen within 10 yards of them.

Just take a look at some of the posts deemed "acceptable" within this forum itself. Some of the graphics used are overtly racist and blatantly disrespectful of a man who could very well turn out to be your next president.

People can discard their urine bottles as discreetly as they want, heck, they can even go so far as to wear an Armani suit behind the wheel, but until one learns the difference between what's socially acceptable within a pluralistic society, and what's socially accepted within their cliche , ...and governs themselves accordingly, the quality of their character will be apparent to all, ...and will stigmatize participants in the entire industry deservedly or not. Just an observation.

attitude?

I don't know what urine bottles and my choice for president have in common, but you may know something I don't. Myself, I find it hard to vote for a man that will tax both of us clear out of existance. There are always going to be a few deivers that are "bums" they don,t care about themselves or anyone else, and yes that starts at home as well. Until the trucking industry look very closley at who they hire and quit taking every warm body off the street that walks in, it will continue to be the same.

Unhappy

Problem is...it is FINE to call Palin a "pig," yet post anything bad about Obama and you won't be happy. What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander. It seems EVERYONE is crude and crass anymore. I mean I have NEVER seen the type of talk/actions about/against politicians than I have seen recently. AND, even BY politicians and they are supposed to be "diplomatic!" No sir, this is NOT a trucker issue, of which you speak, this is a "society" issue.

We have had people come on here and say some of the meanest, most nasty things you can imagine. We cannot moderate everything, man. You say these posts were "deemed acceptable?" That is like saying the guy pissing in your back yard was "deemed acceptable." It is a ridiculous statement. So, how can you change that he just pissed in your back yard? Kick him out. Sure...but you have to catch him first! So, c'mon...get off your high horse and get back into the real world. We do the best we can with over 18,000 LIVE/REAL members.

We do not "deem" ANY post acceptable...people post and have their own opinions. So, don't come in here and act like we sit here, giggling, and deeming posts. Get off it, dude. You can see the speck in another's eye, but do not see the 4x4 in your own. Take a look at yourself and you may see what I mean. I, for one, do NOT condone "speaking evil of dignitaries," but...I am NOT everyone. People truly are rude and it is on ALL sides.

Charity has nothing to do with rudeness. Manners on the other hand has everything to do with it. People learn their behavior by watching others. They mimic what they do....ever hear the song "be careful little eyes what you see?" Go into an elementary school one time and listen to how the children talk and watch how they behave.....it isn't just certain "truck drivers" behaving badly. It is a large majority of people and they don't care whom they offend.

Well said WiseOne. I have seen posts that I would consider disrespectful about our current president and the candidates on the republican ticket. Are those considered acceptable? Are comments in the media by Canadian reporters or reporters from any other country about the republican VP candidate considered acceptable? I have seen posts picking apart our country, politicians, health care system, and other things by those that do not live here.

I frequently drive through Toronto . Drivers their need to start worrying about their image . Worst drivers I have seen anywhere and most ineffective LEO's . I also read Toronto newspapers and Ontario politicians receive worse criticism than U.S. politicians . Pot calling the kettle black here .

Really? I'd have never guessed that by your other posts. You see, "image", "character" and reputation follow a person from thread to thread, forum to forum.

Now my reputation is that of a cranky old lady with a pointy stick, mean to the bone and willing to smack people silly. Have you considered what yours is?

lol that's not how you come across at all, you are waaaaay too diplomatic.

after about 30 minutes of reading the mudslinging one way, i had an itch to sling it back the other way, and i scratched it. maybe it was a *little* over the top, but certainly not out of line with 80% of the posts over there.

i assure you i'm much more composed and professional in real life.
