The Truckers' Image Under The Driver's Hat. Discuss ways for truckers to improve their image. Urine bottles, trashy truck stops and no truck parking signs abound. How do we change our image and earn respect back?

I should start my new job in a day or so. I'm 6'2" and 220 and no I'm not fat. My new boss hasn't told me to get my hair cut (shoulder length) But I'm going to anyway. He's letting me drive a very nice truck and his customers have most likely never met him. They will meet me! I refuse to have any of them call Larry and accuse him of hiring slobs!!! My truck has shag carpet and they demand three truck washes a month , more if time allows. The man that signs my paycheck wants clean trucks. It is his truck and he has that right. He wants his drivers to represent his company in a good light! he has that right as well. I will be showered and shaved on arrival at the customer, I will be polite and treat the customer with respect. and thereby I will be treated with respect. Their load will be on time and in extra fine condition.. For this I get good equiptment, the pay that was decided on before hire. This is the job I took, it is the job I will do in a safe manner.

I think it's funny to hear peoples driving habits when they get in their personal 4-wheelers....my pickup is getting a dent in the floor board on the left side because I constantly push for the non-existent "Clutch"...lol. I guess after driving the truck at work for 30 days straight and then climbing into my pickup for a few days, my instincts changed. Next thing is a plunger stuck to my floor so I can have a "shifter" too! I also take turns wide and am constantly watching overhead clearance and "No Thru Trucks" signs....

He then passed the cars in front of him, passed me, and was about 8 feet off of a Honda's bumper, while running by my guess 75. He stayed on the Honda's bumper for several miles. There were a couple of cars in the next lane, so he could not pass on the right. Why the honda did not pull into the right lane I don't know.

He kept getting closer to the Honda, until I thought he would eventually hit it.

After they were pretty far in front of me the driver slowed down and got into the right lane. I caught back up, passed him, then he exited the road.

He was a local container driver, so he knew where he was going. He ended up getting to his exit after I did, and left a bad image of all truck drivers to the Honda driver, and anyone else who saw this happen.

When the 68 MPH mantadory speed comes up for consideration, the public will demand it be passed. Mostly because of people like this person, only one of many I see every day and night who drive this way.

I was an O/O for years, so I am not picking on them. This driver just happened to be one, and a pitiful excuse of one too.
The chip trucks do it here three or four in line. You couldnt put a VW sideways between them. One of these days #1 locks brakes and wake up Leroy he has never seen a wreck like this.
