hey all, thanks for reading.
ive had my CDL for 20 years, but out of seat for ~10 solid.
left the wood hauling for manufacturing and got the lay off after 9.5 years. for most all of my manufacturing life, i missed the gears. i drove locally (300 mile radius) in the wood hauling, and always wanted the long haul life. the manufacturing was a great job, so i rode it out as far as i could.
i really have no desire to ever drive local again. i do have a desire to drive, so, i am gearing up to drive 48+ canada.
talking to a lot of carriers and things look really good. i am just waiting for my bp to dial in and gov't to approve my x endorsement. in all likelihood, i will start my refresher after the holidays. my bp put a hold on things, pre-hires started in august. just making sure things are done right in order to make a successful run at the hill.
with my local experience (day cab / all kinds of heavy equipment) plus off-road, the oil fields would be a perfect match, but i want the other driving opportunities. and that is what it comes down to, what i want.
this forum is the best, thanks to all! i look forward to sharing what i can.
its in my blood...

thanks everyone... have to re-type this as i hit a touch button to leave the page... hahahaha.
waiting for my bp to regulate out a little better to guarantee a good orientation. it was really comforting to read many other people having to take a month or two to get the bp in check on this forum. my pre-hires started in september, october was for bp medicine and side effect reporting, november is for medicine adjustment / fine-tuning.
as it may be a good blessing because i think that spending time with the trainer/mentor/finisher in the heart of winter would be a great opportunity for skills, double set of eyes on the road, winter rules, the whole lot.
cheers. -
i hope you can find a small company that will treat you right, the big mills won't, and won't be anything like running a log truck
good luck to you -

actually, i never personally ran round wood. i grew up on the dog house, in slashers and skidders, when the trucks were running that. by the time i turned 18, the trucks were specialized in the wood waste, landscaping, chip removal, canadian peat moss, anything that could go in a open-top van or walking floor trailer. aint nothing like seeing a 30" tree go into a chipper!
now, staying in the ruts in the peat farms is a story! first load i was told, dont get off the track. no problem. when i got parked to load i got out, stepped off the track (ruts only wide enough to park) and sank up to my hips. i was like OMG, couldnt imagine the truck going in!
i am leaning towards con-way truckload for anyone that has an opinion or info. i dont see much posted for the bad on them, and ive know a couple drivers that give them praise. also, theyll let my pit-lab
mix travel with me.
prime isnt my favorite, but they are willing to train me in a tanker (east coast relocation needed).
kennesaw will take me after three months with mega-carrier.
also i contradicted myself already on pre-hires dates in this thread... they started in late august and i ramped up all the megas in september.
thanks again everyone.
