Hey everybody so I just got my cdl two weeks ago and now I need to find a job!!! Every place I am applying for is telling me I must be at least 21 which I understand because of insurance policies but are their any companies out their that will give me a shot even driving bobtails? Before my plan was to get my class a and drive for my dad he is an owner operator but he is really cheap, before that was ok because at least by the time I am 21 I would have some experience and I figured I could deal with the lowsy pay until then... But plans change, I'm going to be a father in 7 months!!! So I need something I can support my baby, my girlfreind and my self on. So is their any companies out their tha will give me a shot? Or should I just do what my dad is suggesting, find a co signer for a small daycab and a 4 ar trailer and sub haul for the company he works for? Loads are garenteed I have been working with him as a car puller for the last two years so the company knows and likes me but I'm just afraid I will be biting off more than I can chew... Any advise?

Contact all the household goods movers. They hire drivers under 21 to run within the state , intrastate. Then if you like the company, you can go OTR the day you're 21. You can start as an intrastate driver or drivers helper.

Check the yellow pages or Google for household goods movers in your area. Many of the major players such as United Van Lines and a dozen others also have agents under different names that haul for them so you can apply with them also.

Before you even consider buying a truck, join OOIDA. It's not that simple and with no experience the insurance alone will probably bankrupt you. You need probably $20K-$40K in a reserve maintenance account at all times. Check the OOIDA website.

Edit : Even if you bought a truck and haul cars where your father works, you still can't leave the state/cross the state line until you're 21. Now, working as a drivers helper with a household goods moving company, you may be able to travel nationwide with the driver as his helper, but no driving outside your home state.

What is your location? I know 1 place in my AO that hires teenagers with a CDL. Stuck doing Intrastate( who cares ) and at $19hr for a Ma and Pa place doing LTL.
