Just curious if you could use 14.0 piston kits on a 12.7 crank? Assume you would have to use 12.7 rods. Not getting ready to tear into mine just curious.

I think the block is different on a 14L also. Crank is different too..

Never heard of anyone doing that before on a 12.7.

I know on the cats people swap stuff around. 14.6/15.2/15.8 L .
Dont think the detroits roll like that thou.

You could always find a ddec5 14L and just build it up like the ddec4 if you know what im saying. Lots those engines around and they run real good to once "Fixed". ........

Isn't it the stroke that determines the difference between 11.1 12.7 and 14 litres .. I was under the impression all had the same bore???

I know the stroke is longer "different crank" but got the impression the bore was bigger too. Also found where someone tried the 14.0 crank and it wouldn't quite make the turn with rods attached in 12.7 block.
And your right if mine but the dust I'd prob look for a good ddec5 take out and build it to work right.

Unfortunately there is no factory rod that will let you use the 14L pistons in the 12.7. The 12.7 and 14L share the same length rod. The pin height of the piston is determined by the stroke.

    magoo68, prerunner404 and catwrench55 Thank this.
