I have a N14 that when you turn the key to start it, it used to start within 2 seconds, now it wants to start during the 2 second duration but it lingers like it is starving for fuel or there is air in the line than it starts up. I have a Davco 329 that I replaced the Top and Bottom Collar O-rings, replaced the inlet fuel line Check Valve because I thought it was sucking air. I don't have any fuel leaks. Does this engine have a mechanical or electric fuel pump, does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this issue? Thanks in advance.

Some brands of spin-on fuel filters are bad about not sealing against the mounting head.O-ring is not correct. Also is your starter spinning as fast as it used to ? Both of these problems have caused my N-14's to fire up slower.

If you replaced the check valve I would definately change the fuel filter they originally used to have the fleet guard fs 1000 try that if it doesn't help then go with fleet guard ff105 its a smalle filter also I would say check or change you're timing sensor they're relatively inexpensive now

Thanks, someone else suggested it could be the Timing Actuator, is that the same as the Timing Sensor?

I would check crankshaft position sensor(somewhere by flywheel).. not sure if N14 has camshaft as well but definitely when one goes bad truck doesnt start right away.. needs to turn couple times more than usual

It actually has both sensors in one right by the camshaft gear. Now it's like a $30 sensor before it was really expensive

Update: I have been back to my Mechanic twice since I first posted, he cleaned the Check Valve by the ECM ( it had some gunk in there);and it still hard starts, yesterday he took apart the Davco and resealed it and it still hard starts. I asked him about the Crank Sensor and he said No, because it isn't throwing any Codes. He is thinking the Fuel Pump is going bad. Does a bad Crankshaft Sensor need to set a Code because from reading up on this topic, some say yes, some say no? Thanks.

$30 +30 min of work and you will have piece of mind there

Have you ever checked fuel pressure?

On my D12 engine fuel pressure was getting low, it throwed cose but couldnt really tell the difference in truck pulling power and was starting without any problems
