Need help diagnosing fuel gauge. The gauge pegs to full no matter what we try.
Un plugged right tank to change broken straps, plugged back in turned key on
Low fuel light comes on and gauge steadily climbs to peg out full. I unplugged
Both sides at same time and gauge does same thing? This is a 2008 Pro Star.
Any help would be appreciated, can't find any broken wires and sending units
Have continuity. Could this be a Body Control Issue ?

Have you tried removing the sending unit and manually moving the float to see what the gauge does yet?
And what are the voltage readings at the sending unit plug?
I'm looking up some information for the truck now to see if I can help you outLast edited: Sep 4, 2015

Thanks for reply. No not yet, the gauge worked fine
Up till time it was unplugged from right side sending
Unit -
Unless you have a computer and the software to make it do a gauge sweep...its pretty much just process of elimination to figure whats causing it.

By looking at the wiring diagram for the tanks I would take the extra step and test both sensors. I'm still looking for the gauge diagram.
fuel level sensor resistance (FULL 29-37 OHMS) (EMPTY 234-246OHMS)
On your body controller pin b9 is for your left tank signal input and b8 is for your right side signal. the letters n36a should be printed on your signal wire at the left tank. n36b wire on your right tank is that ones signal wire.
So it's pin b9 and left side tank wire n36a should be tan if not painted.
And pin b8 and right side tank n36b also tan.
You'll need to check continuity and resistance between these. Compare resistance readings for the wires for comparison to each other.
I'll post again once i find the gauge diagramStarting over Thanks this. -
I also want to point out ALL Prostar models are kind of touchy to things being plugged in and out. I had my body controller not allow my passenger window modal to talk to it, Fuses and everything were fine. Ended up finding out once in a while if you unplug something and it don't come back you normally have to pull the FUSE (Behind the passenger side dash panel) and plug it back in after a few sec. This will allow the item to reset and recommunicate with the body controller.
