Hi again to the group. Since I last posted, I have relocated to the Persian Gulf island of Bahrain. I thought my days of Freightliner trucks was over, but we just received in a couple new fuel trucks, and yep... Freightliners. These are 2015's and equipped with the Mercedes 906, and one's engine fan does not come on. In the process of tracing things out, but hoping someone can point us in the right direction to keep downtime to a minimum. Thanks in advance.

Somewhere under that truck there are some 6" x6" black plastic square modules mounted on a crossbeam. There are 3/8 airlines and electrical plugs going to them. The one on the far right should be the fan solenoid. I believe it has a yellow air line going to it. To be sure follow air line from fan to it and blow shop air to it. These solenoids go bad quite often. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

Hi to all
I dont wanna make mistake, but as I remember OM906 was discontinued.
Ok, if it is om906 it has PLD ECU (two connectors 16 pin and 55 pin)
But 906 engine may be used with different fan clutches as simple air controlled, PWM magnatic clutch+lock, Borg Warner Vistronic, viscosic clutch, electric fan.....
So I need more info,
Can u post picture of ECU and fan clutch.
DO u have DDDL and DDMC to hook up laptop? -
Thanks Pablo for the reply back. I need to find out where Freightliner mounts the ECU on the M2s. I'm only familiar with the BHM and CCM. Here's a shot of the air fan clutch.
-
No ability to hook to a laptop.
-
Yes, this is OM906. And as I can see u have aftertreatemt modul too
I'm surprised, becouse 906 PLD engine was replaced with OM936 (common rail).
Ok, I can see 906 model is still in use.
Fan clutch looks like horton air controlled clutch.
Can u look for air solenoid? Does fan spin when air pressure in tanks is low? -
Last six of the VIN and I can get some info for you.
-
Follow that purple air line. It will lead you to the faulty solenoid.

Fan does that free-spin thing. Just never kicks on. No air pressure on the line going to it, ever.
