I currently am hauling dry bulk comodities with a 2004 Lowmax. The issue I have is the 5th wheel sits too low to pull a liquid tanker. All the cargo will be nose heavy as my 5th wheel sits now at 45" high. I have to get some risers to raise it up but the shop wants me to find them and figure out the height I need.

So my question is, what height is the standard tanker 5th wheel? Any of you that have raised your's up might be able to help, and if any of you can possiably get me your exact 5th wheel height would be greatly helpful!!!

    Thanks in advance

I talked to a tanker company once they said I had to have a 48" 5th wheel hight. Thats where my 5th wheel is now (to clear my fenders) I think my stands are 8" high and I have 11-24.5 rubber.
I went looking for a used 5th wheel one time for another truck and was looking for 8 high stands found alot of them for a fixed mount but non for a slider.
    Hope that helps.

I would say 50 inches, that would allow the liquid to run into the manifold.

I used to run at 49" 5th wheel height, that was what most companies required then...

Thanks guys... I found a few companies online that required a 52-54" 5th wheel and then other that require 49" like stated above. I think a set of 5" risers would do the trick to get me at 50" but I may try for some 12" risers just for the hell of it

My company's policy is a fifth wheel height between 51-53 inches.
I get away with a 49 inch high fifth wheel by running with my fifth wheel slid ahead all the time and maxing out on the steering.
I'm fine on axle weights with a rear unloader but need to be slid ahead with a center unloader.

Thanks for all the help. I had a shop here locally custom fab me a set of rails to raise my 5th wheel as I already have the highest one simplex makes. $700 but it's really nice and puts me between 50-51" now set in the middle... I will post up some pics later on.

any higher than 48 and you will be too tall to pull a van later...... something to think about

Thats when you drop the air bag leveling valve. But I will not ever be pulling a van with this truck. A flat-top and a 13'6" van don't mix well at the fuel pumps :biggrin_25523:
Besides, what they made me bolts in between the frame and 5th wheel/slider, so I can remove it if I go back to RGN in the future ;)

Right now tho, there is too much money to be made doing what I'm doing for the few days I do it :)
