So I'm hoping someone has had the same issue. Just bought the pete a few weeks ago. Cruise doesn't come on unless the brake pedal is pushed down. On the diagnostic computer it shows that the service brake is depressed. When you push the brake it shows the service brake is released. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Truck has an n14(not sure if that will matter)
96 pete 379 cruise doesnt work

You have a N/C (normally closed) instead of a N/O (normally open) air over electric brake switch installed. Easy fix.

Where it's that switch located? The shop changed the one right in front of the brake pedal. Tried to feet a different switch set the pete store but the parts guy couldn't figure out what switch I needed. So I unplugged the switch that they has in figuring it would open the circuit but no luck

if you lift the brake pedal all the way up, does cruise work?
-
No only way uitr works is pushing inn the brake. I think it's the switch just not sure which one

Air lines got reversed on the brake switches. Take the interior panel off that covers the steering column and there is a small aluminum panel to the right of the steering column under the dash. There is two air lines, switch them and I bet the cruise will work.
I just went through the same exact problem. The Cat computer was saying the brakes were on when they were off and visa versa. I had remembered removing that panel to get a better visual on the circuit numbers of the wires that were above it. I must have taken the lines off and put them on backwards as nobody else has ever been in there.sparky88 Thanks this. -
Ok I'll check that out. I know this last weekend I tore the gauges out and ended up running a bumper with a switch to the 2 posts on the brake pressure switch and got it to work temporarily but the cruise won't kick off when I hit the brakes and the back doesn't work I less I flip the switch. The brake trundle valve was just replaced before I bought the truck so I wonder if they messed up the airlines in that

It's very possible they did. They look identical. I normally put a zip tie or piece of tape on one so I knew where to put them back but, this time I guess I didn't.
I'm assuming your 96 is the same as my 97 in regards to the switch locations and if you have that column panel off it's worth it to remove both air lines and switch them top to bottom and give it a try.sparky88 Thanks this.
