diagram is a little confusing to me

you cant go past the vertical line of the right?

and u have to start from that angle of being completly perpendicular to the dock? #### thats not easy then...best way to do it in my opinion is to get your tractor and trailer at about a 45 degree angle to the dock....cut the wheel right back up and get close on the sight side so you know your blind side is clear, and keep in mind depending on how far up the tandems are slid to avoid hitting or encroaching on the blindside by the trailer hanging over the wheels

LOL you sound just like me... For the longest time I could only get into the slot like I should have once in a blue moon, then all of a sudden it clicked. I didn't think of the cones as cones. I thought of them as other pcs of equipment or someones car or a fence so I got real careful. Don't worry it will come to you and you'll do just fine. Good luck!

I dont think you can start at a 45 degree angle...the truck has to be completely 90 degrees perpendicular when you start. The best way I can describe doing it is just to start turning early on. Turn slowly and that trailer will slowly start to turn. Slowly at first, but then more and more. Aim for that forward left cone, because if you hug it, you know you are clearing the rest of the cones...just don't overdo it and turn too sharp...otherwise you will have to pull up...not sure how many pull ups they give you.

I just took the test in Wisconsin. We are allowed to approach the area from the south. If you make your approach within a foot of the alley cones on the left, cut to the right when the northern alley cone is at your left shoulder. Keep the wheel turned hard until the tractor is 90 degrees to the line on the right, then cut hard left until your tractor is in about the same position as in your drawing. Now it is a simple matter of backing while looking out your driver's window.

In Wisconsin, we get one free pull-up. However, extra pull-ups only cost a point. Hitting the cones, on the other hand, is a fail. When I practiced, I took an extra pull-up if I needed it rather than starting over.

If you must start in that position, how many points are assessed for pull-ups? If it is only one, then take an extra if you need it and concentrate on passing the road test.

thanks for the help guy. Yeah we only get 2 free pull ups here and two free "get out and looks", and allowance of an extra pull up for the cost of one point. Any additional pull ups are failure. cones on any boundary are 2 points, crossing them with a wheel or two is failure.

Heres the page with the new skills test for oklahoma.

We do it from 90 degrees. Find a point where your trailer Axle needs to be to put you in the slot. Stop. Turn your steers hard right. Backup till your tandems line up with the middle of your landing gear using your mirror. Turn your wheels hard left and follow it into the hole making corrections as necessary.

Now sure why the tests have you starting at 90 degrees from the slot. Thing I heard most instructors say, and can attest to from experience, is setup is 75%+ of a backing. Bad setups will cause more problems then anything else. And having your trailer at 45 degrees in relation to the slot makes it alot easier to back her in.

Only time I've ever setup using a 90 degree is when the space is too tight to do it otherwise and ya gotta Jack Back it in.

Here on Cali, you do a 90 degree turn. It isn't that difficult.
