So my first load was 9-8-15. I have to say I am very relieved to say things are going well. I left the information technology sector to go back to my love...flatbed trucking.
I am running only through brokers and contrary to what I read here I have developed great relationships with them and I am really enjoying the diverse types of freight verses running dedicated same old same old.
Frontline, TMC, Specialized, Landstar, PLS, TQL, ZMAC, Tadmore, Callahan, and several others have all been very good to me! Yes of course they call with some cheap offers that I have to turn down but I would rather get the call than not get the call! It is not up to them to know what I can or can not run....it is up to me!
So that is my 2 cents for now.....just happy to be back on the road and producing positive numbers in a truck I friggin love!
Have a good Thanksgiving all! And thanks for the loads and loads of information you all have produced in here!
Almost 4 months in...

I'm happy for you but I think you slightly miscalculated the time if your first load was in September. Anyway, good to hear you're enjoying it and not being taken advantage of. Hope you have a happy turkey day.

I am glad you asked.....I was kinda hoping to run the numbers by some owner/ops and compare them. I'll open up my excel doc in the morning and post some real numbers here.
I can tell you this for now though...I don't run for less than 2.57 per mile..sometimes more....and sometimes just a minimum flat rate...but I do return home empty so that kinda sucks for now.Last edited: Nov 26, 2015

I'm a new owner operator as well. I bought my truck in June. Ive only finished my accounting up to September. I've taken two separate 2 week vacations for a total of one month off so really these #'s are only for 3 months.
Also given that I pull cattle Things like fuel will be a little higher for me than most, but anyways here's what I got. Would be cool to compare with other guys who really know their #'s. I'm on a 75% lease (not lease purchase) deal running under someone elses authority, pulling their trailer and they dispatch me. Also a bunch of one time or annual cost like 6250 down payment for truck and insurance down payment,2290 etc... are dragging down overall profits getting started here. On a monthly basis most months I profit over 1 dollar per running mile.
2015 overview KP Analysis Per mile
total miles 47,119 N/A
total revenue $75,633.56 $1.61
Total Cost $39,186.53 $0.83
Total profit $36,447.030 $0.77
total fuel cost $21,710.06 $0.46
total Maintenance cost $5,171.35 $0.11Last edited: Nov 26, 2015
