Swampers are employees that accompany winch truck drivers to move tanks around the oil field. They do not need a CDL but they do get valuable experience in that line of work. Typically, companies employing swampers do so with the intention of getting them their CDL and then keeping them employed in that capacity. At last check, swampers made close to $18/hr and worked 70+ hours a week. "Swampers" is a nice word for getting dirty, slimy and tired. However, unlike drivers, swampers do get paid overtime!

Are there any jobs for swampers

jdotson Thanks this.

Was thinking about trying to get a swamper job. Have a CDL and a year driving, only problem it was over 10 years ago.

I have my permit. I've completed 160 hours at a CDL School/mill and I test tomorrow. I failed the maneuvers part of my first test. If I were to fail again tomorrow would there be a decent place I could get a job?
