If so, what do you do? Couple (what appears to be) descent opertunities in my area. Mainly Linehaul and port work. Not looking to get rich (OK, I am but I'm realistic) but would like to make more than I do now.

I have my own authority and haul cars for a couple of auto auctions and a select few car dealers. I have also dabbled in dump trucks and leasing a tractor to pull oil field equipment when the drilling boom started in Pennsylvania. I know a few guys who pull containers, that work is not for me, or lease onto grocery haulers and do daily store deliveries. There are a lot of choices you just have to look for them. I am a firm believer that you do not have to go OTR to make money, in fact I never drove OTR until almost 15 years after getting my cdl and made the least money when doing so. It is not about the miles, just the total revenue generated and the effort it takes to generate that revenue. You are in a good area for day trips being in Virginia. Good luck.
