Any reason not to switch from 24.5 to 22.5 on flatbed trailer?

I have 2 tractorsi(volvo 780 and freightliner columbia) that both have 22.5 tires / rims on them and
2 flatbed trailers with 24.5 rims on both of them.

Is there any reason that I shouldn't take the 24.5 aluminum rims from one of the trailers and switch it the tractor?

Then I would have 24.5 rims on one tractor/trailer combination and 22.5 rims on one tractor trailer combination.

I want to do this so I only have to carry 1 spare tire for each setup

Is there any compelling reason not to make the switch?

Shoulden be a problem just recalibrate the speedometer after changing the tire size.

If your 22.5s are all 11R and the 24.5 have 285/75 then there's no problem in swapping. If you have 11R24.5 and low pro 22.5 you will have some issues to deal with. Like was said above the 285/75R24.5 is the same overall diameter as the 11R22.5.

500 RPM less by changing tire size? The revs per mile between a low pro 22.5 and a 24.5 standup are only 39 revolutions per mile, I don't think it would equate 500 rpm.

I agree with Johndeere4020, there is not going to be 500 RPMs extra in that additional 39 feet revolutions per mile. Remember we shift engines in heavy trucks at like half that rpm spread.

If you are able to decide on one set of tires through all the wheels on your tractor and trailer, then go for it. I like it also.

By the same coin I also like tires that can carry a weight that is heavy on it just because if the one blows next to it that might be the extra which gets you to where you can replace it down the road.

You're exactly right. This week changed a truck from low pro 22.5 to 11R and it dropped his RPMS about 100-125 at 70 mph. I've done two other trucks from low pro 24.5 to 11R and it made about the same difference there.

Sorry I went from slick 255/22.5 up to new 11/24.5 tires and was close to 500 rpm diff. but having the correct spare is like having a few c/notes folded behind your cb radio

Look closely at the tire weight and load ratings on the tires you're looking to run between the two profiles.
