Anything good about Celadon from someone that is there now

    I gave them that option and they couldn't give me a answer. Besides that is not what the rules state. Read the rules for yourself.

    Anyways Celadon has a history of screwing people thar leave their company.

    It really doesn't matter what the rule says. Always turn in your truck and get it in writing no matter who you work for.

    Angrytruckingguy, you could be one of my drivers, I have no idea. You sound like some of the ones I like the best, who roll with what happens and get on with the job. I was that kind of driver and as a DM with Celadon for about 4 years now, I appreciate that attitude.

    We're like drivers, some of us not so good, but I do believe most of us really care about the job we do, and about our drivers, I know I do. We went through the same thing, the freeze on raises, heck, we don't even GET bonuses, and so on. But most of us persisted and I'm still there, in a job I love with people I really like. My job can be very hairy and very stressful, but my drivers make my day, every day. Some will call or come in to visit just to check on me, they have no idea how nice that is. Sometimes they bring me little trinkets from the road.

    I work hard to have good relationships with the folks in other areas of operations, so that when I need something for a driver I stand a better chance of getting it. I honestly don't waste a lot of time or effort on a driver I feel is just goofing off or trying to get over, but the ones who are really trying to do their job to the best of their ability, them I'll go to bat for every time. I try every day to be the kind of DM I always wanted to have (and pretty much never did, although I did not drive for Celadon).

    Some of their problems I am helpless to solve (and I HATE that), but I will always at least try. I'm pretty sure I get on the nerves of a lot of ops managers and customer service people (not to mention load planners) while trying to work things out for the best for my driver, as well as for our customers (without whom none of us will have a job).

    I am very happy at Celadon, and I feel privileged to work with some of the best drivers in the industry.

    hey celodon baught out yfc glenmoore in greensboro nc and now they offer a south east regional home on week ends and every 30,000 miles 1 week paid vacation run nc,sc,ga,fl,part of tenn, and part of va and thats it:biggrin_255:

    HI Tuckerdad- here's a little clarification-
    Celadon bought out USFGlenMoore headquartered in Carlisle PA. The Carlisle terminal is up and running and we are gradually shifting the SE Regional Operations to Greensboro as we get new DMs trained in that area as we already have other operations running there. At this time we have 3 SE Regional fleets and are operating two of them out of Greensboro during the daytime with one of our very good, experienced DMs. At night all 3 of those fleets are still being covered in Carlisle but will shift to Greensboro as soon as we have trained personnel to cover them. (The admin personnel in Greensboro are already pretty much maxed out with existing fleets).

    It takes a few months to get DMs up and running (contrary to what many drivers think, it's not a job you learn overnight), and we look forward to operating at full capacity with our SE Regional fleet out of Greensboro. We have always been committed to taking the best care we can of our Greensboro fleets and we will welcome our new SE drivers with the same care and commitment. I don't expect any shortage of drivers for this as we already have many interested in the fleets; some are former Glen Moore drivers but quite a few are current Celadon drivers. We are looking at a lot of change and growth in this area and it's an exciting time for us. It's not going to happen overnight but we do have a good, hard-working crew in Greensboro, and a great Director of NE/SE operations involved, and it WILL happen.

    I can not believe that one poster brought their truck home after quitting! I bet his DAC (or hers) is all F-d up after that, lol. Celadon probably put truck abandonment and this person doesn't care just because they got lucky and found another job before it hit their DAC report. Wow! Definitely not a potential rehire. Common sense and common courtesy tell you if it is at ALL possible you turn the truck in, along with anything else that belongs to the company. My husband left his truck at a truckstop because the company TOLD him too and he sat with it and waited until the recovery driver showed up. Since this was a crap company anyways they put truck abandonment on his DAC anyways. He found out, fought it, and had it taken off because it was untrue. Now he's with a company that has only given 1000 miles per week for the past 2 weeks, has rude people, and they will probably put God knows what on his DAC when he leaves. But, the truck will be left in a yard and emptied out that is for sure!

    He's actually looking at Celadon once he's living above I-20.

    Sometimes they'll take the truck home to clean it out then just...not bring it back to a yard. And yeah, that's considered abandonment and goes on their DAC (Or HiRite, or whatever it's called now). People do all sorts of weird things but fortunately most of them have the sense to bring it to a terminal to turn it in.

    The SE Regional fleets are now covered in Greensboro. We don't have all OUR new people in place yet but those decisions are made way above my pay grade (oh wait - ALL decisions are made way above my pay grade!) so I just take what they give me and work with it. A lot of the SE drivers are new to the company and they're kind of rushed through orientation so some of them need a lot of help. Some of them are all apologetic, "I'm sorry to bother you", that sort of thing, because they know I have more than twice the trucks I had before. I just tell them they don't have to apologize, they're new and I'm there to help them. I tell them every place has its own way of doing things and that once they get used to it, they'll be fine. I don't mind helping newbies at all; it's the ones who've been there forever and KNOW what to do and don't do it that get on my last nerve. I'll go out of my way for those who are trying to do their job, but I can do without the ones who want to get paid for just sitting and breathing :)

    ...like how to drop a trailer so it's even with the trailer next to you instead of 20 feet back so it's blocking another trailer another driver might need?

    Hypothetically, of course. and hypothetically I may have had to move 2 trailers because they were blocking the trailer I had to get.
